AFL ratings well up, despite scores lowest for 52 years

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-ratings-well-up-despite-scores-lowest-for-52-years-20190510-p51m6o.html

"The average margin in seven rounds of 28.9 points is the lowest since 1976 – a reflection of lower scores and the even competition. The average scores are 80.9 points per team per game, compared with 83.1 over the whole of 2018. The scores are the lowest since 1967.

But while scores are lower, there is a view – put forward by Martin and Seven commentator and AFL legend Leigh Matthews – that the rule changes have meant the ball is ‘‘in motion’’ more."
