The A.F.L has ticked off on all of the decisions that supposedly went against Essendon on Anzac Day.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-04-27/they-were-the-correct-calls-umpire-stands-by-anzac-day-calls

But surprise, surprise, they didn’t mention all the ones that went against Collingwood.

^ Pies fans need to counter the media by talking about those. (Now social media provides a platform for doing just that.) Otherwise it seeps into the umpires' brains and decisions start going against us. We've already seen the media spend the previous week going on about the Mihocek goal, without saying that a down-field free kick would have been paid if it had been a behind.

Twitter is an effective medium for that, because you can include video, it can spread, and mainstream news media include twitter posts in their articles.

I tend to think that the attention will result in Essendon getting a very good run from the umps in their next game (vs Geelong). But, granted, it may work against us too in our next game, where we're given little opportunity to dispose of the ball before a free is paid against us. However, the opposition will also be bound by the same quicker disposal requirement by the knee jerk reaction umpiring department.

Will Kelly played his first game in the VFL. Remember when the media spent a week harping on about his father supposedly pinching his opponent? (It was against Geebung, right? Mensch??) The next week, game-deciding free kicks were paid against the Pies (playing Essendon, I think).

Pushing back on social media is key, I reckon.

It certainly was Geelong, but I think it was Billy Brownless. Maybe Will Kelly has Oscar Brownless in his pincer sights one day...

Back a few years ago when our club had a visible and audible media department, they made a joke video with the sons of past players. In the video, one of the non-Kelly sons has the gag line: "Ouch! He pinched me!"

When Roughead & M. Brown were running for a ball at HBF they both looked very slow. I'm not sure we'd want Roughead on a mobile opponent.

Spoke to Mitch today ( his dad is my best mate ) and he reckons Roughead really knows his angles. He’s not fast but closes distance by cutting angles and not wasting energy by being sucked into false leads.
Interesting that Mitch was “ disappointed “ because his role was to open space behind him. It’s a team role, particularly with Daniher back and plenty do it every week at all clubs but it’s a tough gig when your first job is to take your opponent under and away from the ball.

Did he sit out the game once he fractured his wrist, or did he come back on?

He sat it out. There was only a few mins to go. He will certainly miss a few and they are still waiting for a final decision on the rehabbing. Devon smith in trouble too, so they will have their injury concerns in the coming weeks.
More importantly, we seem to have escaped unscathed with Howe only copping a fine, so that’s a good result.

Howe was aerially much better this week than last, completing marks as he usually does. Last week, he even had a couple of air spoils.

Thinking of going to the ANZAC game next year. How much extra will I need to pay? I have got a ten-game membership and intend to have the same package next year too.
Thanks.
