Rewarded for his work rate Thursday night. Hopefully his kicking penetration can improve beyond his 40 metre capacity at the moment. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

I think he's developing well. Has very clean hands. All through his career he's shown great ability in close.
Will either make it as a tough inside mid like Luke Ball or a small forward who specialises in clearances like Josh Thomas. I see it as very unlikely that he doesn't make it as a long term AFL player. _________________ Well done boys! |

"He’s as clean below his knees as I’ve seen – he’s very much Caleb Daniel like as well in terms of how he doesn’t waste his possessions. He’s probably a 15 to 30 metre player in terms of his kicking at this stage, but as he continues to develop that power in his legs, which he’s got – his vertical is very good, his speed is getting better, he is just going to keep growing into his body – and the one thing he is, he is just super competitive, super determined, very driven and just a beautiful, natural footballer," – Len Villani (Eastern Rangers talent manager), Inside Football, November 2016.
"Callum was running around at Marcellin last year but was really small and then he did some special things and has grown up sideways and a little vertically. He has always been great with his hands and with his vision and composure and now he can win his own footy and doesn't get brushed aside," - Anton Grabic (Vic Metro coach), Herald Sun, 15 June 2016.

Brown is getting better each week. At just 17 games the body of work isn't vast, but he's a player, I have no doubts.
He plays like another young no.17 did when he first debuted, whom now wears the no.11.
Clearly has the Brown contested footy DNA, is as hard as a cats head.
Not sure if extra weight is a necessity, might just slow him down however getting additional strength through the legs and core will assist him standing up in the contest and breaking tackles.
He's evasive, has great second efforts and is a quality user by hand.
The kicking is a B+ at this point. Need to get this to A level / elite standard. He might ask the coach about this aspect.
If he could improve his average tackle count by 2 or 3 a game develop his gut running over the coming years he'll become a valuable link player and rover.
I look forward to be reviewing his output at game 50. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

Watching the replay, I like the way he plays. Moves really well.
Just needs to get that goal kicking right. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Think at his age and stage of development he is a week to week prospect given our current depth. His kicking is more C- but hope with more pre-seasons and practice he can find 10-15 metres and better penetration. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

I do not want to invite stupid comparisons but it is worth observing that Gary Ablett Jnr did not really run the midfield consistenly until he was two years older than Callum is, at present. At the same age, he was also playing predominantly as a high half-forward. |
One player can kick, mark, kick goals, is fast and elusive. The other one plays for Collingwood.
Brown got to good postions but the kid can't kick nor is he fast. He has fast hands - wouldn't like to play cards agains him. I hope he proves me wrong as his last two matches have been encouraging and I'm slowly warming to him. However your jusxaptostion is well you know, how does one say a tad generous? _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

^ I wasn't suggesting he's going to be the next GAJ. The point I was making was that people have been commenting negatively about him way too early in his career. He's plainly a centreman being played out of position at this stage. Since he's obviously quicker than, eg, Adams, Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Phillips, Mayne and Beams, he's fast enough, if he is good enough. |

I think he's tracking well and playing consistent senior football will only help his development. I can't see him being dropped if he continues to get involved, racks up sufficient disposals and hits the scoreboard more regularly. He bobbed up in key moments during the last quarters of the bris and ess games. Definitely needs to show composure in front of goal but was smart enough to realise against the drug cheats that he needed to take his full 30 secs when most players would've blazed away blindly. |

As posted in the post match thread,
Watching the last couple of minutes. Callum Brown took a mark at 2.19 and used up 35 seconds, then used 53 seconds taking his shot for goal after the free kick. Mature effort to take 1.28 out of the last 2.19 |

Noticed Brown has been running out the games really well in the last qtr, which is unusual for the young blokes. However, I have also noticed he usually starts on the bench which helps to explain his strong finishes. I’m only guessing here but I reckon they plan to have Brown up and about in the last qtr, so as to help secure the ball in close while we remain ahead on the scoreboard. It’s also good for Browns confidence to be doing his thing when the sting is out of the game.
His last quarters in particular, have been his standout moments in recent games. He led our tackle count with seven last night and he punches well above his weight around the bigger bodies.
They need to keep playing him, so he can get used to the tempo of high pressure games by the time September comes around.
The verdict is in. He’s a serious keeper. |

I like the boy.
Clean disposal, very good decision making so he's not prone to panic, hard as his old man which makes a cats head look like pudding.
At one point last night during the game, maybe 2nd or 3rd quarter when we were under serious pressure, every possession seemed to be a bang it on the foot and hope for the best. Every player seemed stressed. Enter Brown. Got the ball and did a dinky chip pass to a leading player, but he showed composure. That act was like hitting the reset button as after that, we went back on our way again. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Definitely getting more accustomed to the pace of the game. Could have 8 or 9 goals if he'd finished a bit better. Tackles like a machine. Big future. |
