There is a big difference between sliding to the ground to take a player out (either with the legs or even with the head over the ball) AND being clearly first to the ball with hands and head right near the ball and having an opposing player run into or falling over said player.
The former is dangerous. The latter looks like something players are taught to do now in order to win free kicks. Its like intentionally ducking the head to win a free kick vs making a legitimate play on the ball and having your head taken out. They have finally acknowledged that ducking the head is as big a blight on the game as having your head taken out when making a legitimate play on the ball. Umpires seem to be able to figure this one out, so why cant they figure out which category the "taking the legs out vs making a play on the ball when you get to the spot first".
No-one will convince me that the free paid against Phillips was a soft free kick.
I do agree that the decision was made much worse by gifting the Eagles a goal with the 50 meters when players clearly didnt intend to hold up play.
If you watch the umpire, he actually only signalled the direction of the free kick for about 2 seconds and then put his arms by his side again. I'm not surprised people had no F$cking idea who he had paid the free kick to.
Number 23 for the maggots should be banished from AFL footy until he learns common f$cking sense. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

If people want to understand why we can't beat the Eagles here's some stats that make it easier to understand what's happened over the past 4 games
Grundy averages less clearances against the Eagles than his normal average
Grundy has less hit outs to advantage on average
Pendles Treloar Sidey all average nearly 40% less ranking points per game against the Eagles over the last 4 games than there season average over the same period
Langdon's direct opponent has had 37 scores or score involvement/assists over the 4 games twice as many as any other Collingwood defender
Our overall kicking effiency is down by 13% against them than our season average
Our contested marks are down by over 1/3rd on our season average
Our effective tackles are down by 20% than our season average
For whatever reason they match up superior on us then other teams
Hutchings opponent gets beaten each time but against other opposition he's far less effective. He's owned Sidey over that time and did a decent job on Pendles in the second half last week
Simpson obviously thought Pendles was going too good in the first half and didn't think Sidey would hurt them in the second half if he shifted the tag and was correct. Whilst Sidey got more of the ball it was mainly in the back half a he didn't do anything to hurt them with it but in fairness it's hard to set up goals when the ball is constantly being turned over up field and coming back over your head
We can't find a way to quell there midfield. No matter who we put time into they have someone else come up and hurt us badly
McGovern just does as he pleases. He must mark these games on the calendar for a day out each time
There forwards just make our defenders look second rate at times with the ease of the goals they score or involvements they have. Darling Kennedy have the leading patterns that just puzzle our defenders. Watch on the weekend and Langdon and Howe both seem to be looking over there heads and turning in circles looking at where the ball was coming in and couldn't get in the right position to help the key defenders. Langdon was absolutely clueless at times about what was happening around him and Howe when he did get it butchered the ball horribly something we can't afford to have happen
Some how we need to totally change what we do against them because what we do now just doesn't work
I know we still don't have Scharenberg WHE in the side still which would make a difference but even adding those 2 players won't win us the game
Grundy is our barometer and they take that away from us each and every time
Our much lauded midfield is made look second rate (Adams is our only midfielder who can hold his head up over that time)
And our weakened defence is made pay for its errors
We are yet to have our best 22 available against them in any of those 4 games but the ease in which they handle us adding a couple players won't solve all the problems we have |

Generally speaking, if you lose you're going to be down in the stats so not sure how much that helps

Apparently all we need to do is send the forward of our choice to "play on him" /sarcasm

Not sure a total change is required since we've been close but definitely something different rather than more of the same _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

Great bit of analysis.
The key point is we have not changed things up even for a small amount of time.
Buckley needs to change his mind set otherwise it will be a repeat of the hawthorn run of losses a few years ago. |

Rob Findlay. I was going to ask whether higher-placed teams deserved more experienced umpires, but he's done >200 AFL matches, so inexperience is not the issue. |

200 games he should have worked it out. Findlay is a muppet. A wobber and a wapist. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

I think eagles did what cats did to us and that is flood our forward line heaps in the 4th quarter and then the quick kick out the back leaving their forward loose to get on the end of things. Got to watch the flood. |
