'Cricket insiders believe a combination of the spicier pitches produced by states scrambling for results to qualify for the final and the ball have contributed to the low scores.

Test batsman Travis Head was critical of the pitches being produced for the Dukes ball.

"The seam of the Duke(s) is completely different to the Kookaburra, and we are probably still making wickets for a Kookaburra ball which is making it extremely difficult for the batters," Head, the South Australia captain, said.

"I would probably like to see the wickets have a bit more pace and be a bit faster." '

[Well, I'd like to see Head not get bowled by completely straight balls while swiping across the line.]

Sayers' Ashes dream fades after hard year

https://www.cricket.com.au/news/chadd-sayers-ashes-dream-australia-england-sheffield-shield-south-australia/2019-03-19

"In the last couple of rounds of Shield cricket, the bowlers have been on top, so it will be good to get the Duke back in the hand.

"Any time you can get the ball swinging, the batsmen are vulnerable.

"And the Duke swings for 60-70 overs, which brings the bowlers in for the entire game."
