Both the Warriors and 76ers are set to make deep runs into the NBA playoffs.

Bogut has no NBA out clause in his contract, which means Sydney would need to grant him permission to go back to America for the rest of the season. He will return to the Kings for next NBL season.

Bogut won an NBA championship with Golden State in 2015, while he would link up with fellow Aussies Ben Simmons and Jonah Bolden in Philadelphia.

The Sydney Kings might blow up their side anyway. With Brian Bowen expected to be drafted to the NBA, and others out of contract including Kevin Lisch, and of course Gaze leaving the coaching job.

I dont know what that means for assistant coach, Lenard Copeland?

It'll be interesting to see if Bogut goes back to the NBA for the last part of the season. But it does say he'll return to Sydney for the start of the NBL next season.

As far as the Kings go, they were the early favourite. And they were expected to play United in the GF. But they were defeated, and defeated badly, by Melbourne United in the Semis. It feels like they will lose a few important players and will have to find a new coaching staff.

What are the relevant NBA rules regarding picking up players?

Just a little info:

'... he could join an NBA side any time between now and the last game of the regular season...

"That is possible. It's a different rule. Any player who is overseas can actually join a team up until the last regular-season game," Bogut said.'

But what are the full rules?! e.g. Do the NBA sides need to have room (i.e. fewer than some maximum number of players) on their roster?!

"Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr confirmed on Tuesday his NBA champions had spoken with Bogut and further media reports suggested the team was likely to sign him later this week.
...

The Warriors had a scout fly out to Australia and watch the Kings last month although many thought he was mostly interested in potential NBA draftee Brian Bowen."

"At 34, Bogut is coming in as a back-up for starting centre DeMarcus Cousins and he couldn't be happier doing it. He is reported to have signed for the NBA minimum contract, prorated for only playing last part of the season.
...

... the reason he never filed the paperwork to officially retire was that nagging feeling that perhaps a deal like this could come to fruition."

Retirement paperwork? I wonder what difference that makes.

"Bogut’s signing was made official on Thursday, with the Kings officially giving the necessary clearance for the Melbourne-native to sign the $US486,892 contract for the remainder of the season."

(foxsports.com.au)

That's a very precise number. Cool

$US486,892.00

Thats to back up Cousins for 20 odd games and playoffs.

According to Google, that's $695,009.13 AUD. Confused

I was at game 1 of the semis and watched game 2 on TV.

Bogut was far from the best player on the court.

One article said that's pro-rated. How many games is a whole season (and what would it therefore come to for a whole season)?

Still don't know answers to questions above...

Meanwhile...

"The 34-year-old ... has had his NBA return held up by the process involved in obtaining a US work visa.

Bogut is expected to receive the visa from the US Consulate in Sydney by the end of the week before he flies to California.
...

The Warriors, favourites to win their fourth title in five years, swooped in and signed him to a veteran's minimum contract on March 6 to bolster their front court for the impending play-off run."

'Bogut ... landed in the US on Friday and the initial plan was for him to play his first game at home on Thursday against the Indiana Pacers.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr sent Bogut an SOS text on Saturday night when the team's All-Star centre DeMarcus Cousins suffered an ankle injury in Oklahoma City.

"Call me ASAP," Kerr's text read.'

It's probably safe to assume Corbin Smith does not like Andrew Bogut:
