I'm enjoying every second, good fun.

I'm starting to think that women's footy should be in this format rather than just being a pale imitation of the AFL.

It looked that way K. No-one fell to the ground in agony or limped off, which was a relief to all footy fans I'd imagine, not just Collingwood ones.

Strangely enough, I really enjoyed it. Just seeing that huge wealth of talent all in one place actually playing (and not looking bored at the Brownlow Wink ) was quite amazing. The games got better as the evening went on, probably as the players adjusted to the pace and rules. Fyffe, Cripps, Phil Davies, Rance just to name a few, looked very impressive and reminded me yet again what calibre of players we will have to contend with this season.

Looked in occasionally as I watched Netflix

The blue side (Danger,s one ) and someone said wealth of talent

None of the flair or the Figjam of Dangerfield but professional display

None better than Rusty. Didn’t watch the indigenes or Pendlebury

Gave it a go and surprisingly enjoyed it. Probably went a little too long but it was entertaining nonetheless. Obviously would rather watch our boys in a real game but I'd watch this format over say, a neutral game anyday. Players seemed to be really enjoying themselves, after all, it's just a bit of fun. It was just brilliant - Stephenson, Pendlebury and the Sidemeister all got through without doing an ACL.

I didn’t see Stevo as I chopped and changed—but a mate rang today and said this

“Forget about Stephenson having 2nd year blues “

The premeditated celebratory hand symbols don't do it for me. (Read: make me cringe.) Am I not hip enough for that sort of thing?

Stevo played a blinder in one of the games. He was killing Betts and then taken off him to go forward and Betts got off the chain.

Cripps also showed that it is a shame for him that he has to play for the scum because in the right team he would win a swag of medals and premierships. It is going to cost those mongrels a fortune to keep him.

The game also served to show us what is missing without state of origin. The idea floated is they make this competition state based with say Vic, SA and WA having a team each and the rest. Could even expand the teams to 8 with say Vic country, Metro Vic, NSW/ACT , QLd/NT , Indigineous WA, SA and Tas but allow the overseas players to bolster Tas. . Play in 2 divisions with the same format as yesterday but the 2 teams on top play the GF.

And now we hear that Fyfe is having surgery on his elbow for a (pre-existing) painful bursa.

I actually wondered whether the black sleeve on his right arm (shown in news pics) was a fashion thing! Cool

Not our problem, of course, and they say he won't miss any real games, but obviously it makes you wonder about him delaying the surgery to play in this comic-book game and collect his $20k or $50k.

But the AFL website tells us
"Fyfe said part of the reason why he wore the sleeve was to pay homage to legendary New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski."

If Nat wanted to do that, maybe he should have worn it on his left elbow, as Gronkowski does, not his right.

P. Ryan:

"But changes in the way the community interacts with the game have also increased the risks to the AFL in an era where reputations can flip within a minute and maintaining an authentic connection to the community remains the AFL’s biggest challenge.

Any flights of fancy or missteps from corporations such as the AFL, where many are either overworked or confused about the direction, are not easily forgiven or forgotten, particularly as clubs continue to struggle in many heartland regions (where many unsung contributors to the game really are overworked and confused about the game’s direction).

Even as Australia’s demography changes and the challenges for professional sports grow, supporting the core business and the grassroots footy that underpins it must be the AFL’s first concern and the community should feel that is the case.

At times this summer, it’s fair to say, they’ve not been so sure."

Have a look at the photo of someone taking a pic with Shiel. Is that how you'd pose for pic with an AFL player?
