^ Yeah, I don’t think anyone would want to look too closely at what we do to chickens!
Mugwump, it’s all about how you want to frame the conversation. You can eat meat without supporting the meat industry; you can support the meat industry while opposing certain practices within it. Some people would look at the live trade and just see it as symptomatic of the way we treat animals in general. All of these are legitimate positions to hold and to discuss in the context of this thread. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

^ well, yes, they can look at it that way, except it’s not actually symptomatic.
There are welfare laws against subjecting animals to that kind of cruelty onshore. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to be opposed to live exports as they are presently practised.
I eat meat, but I treat it as a luxury product, and I am very careful to eat only meat that is raised in natural ways, and slaughtered with the minimum of stress. In that regard, I think we are probably improving on nature, where an animal’s life is very often nasty, brutish and short, and its manner of dying very slow and cruel. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

^ I think that’s an excellent ethical decision, but I think you’re probably still in the minority – most of us still get our meat from less-than-ideal sources, and I confess that I still have to count myself in that number. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Yeah, maybe they can stop doing it to humans as well?!
I can't believe they still let them do it in Australia under "religious circumstances" _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

All live trade of animals should be banned, it's inhumane and the farmers involved either have to export butchered meat or sell to the Australian market.
Given the high price of lamb it would seem we could do with more product for Australian consumers anyway. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

That is a rather sweeping generalization. |

Given the lack of feed at the moment, you could probably buy a live lamb/young sheep from a local farmer for $20 and pay a local butcher to prepare it for the freezer and save a shitpile of cash. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
