Grundy

Phillips
De Goey

All well and good — do these stats equal us holding the 2019 silverware

Some of those blokes had a relatively ineffectual 2018 Grand Final, bordering on poor, yet we nearly got there.
We have to continue to improve, and find a way to conquer WCE and Richmond, and whoever else bolts from the blocks in 2019.

Frankly, I'm still not over it, and don't expect to be any time soon.

That's nice but it doesn't guarantee us any success
I would be more likely to look at stats like shepards, smoothers etc to see how the players work for each other and for team success
These stats are nice and some are more meaningful than others IMO
I always like to look at DE over 20m by foot to me that generally tells you a players skill level
You can train a seal to nose the ball 1 meter so 2 meter handballs aren't ranked highly by me for defenders and outside players
Also meters gained per touch. For backs you want the ball away as far as possible so there stats should be higher than a midfielder who might be working in traffic creating outside run
Other stats I look at are goals conceded by defenders, 1 on 1 contests won, hard ball gets and tackles they generally give you a fair idea on players work rates and key abilities

QLD Magpie the Monday training video (abiet breif) showed much of what you described as your evaluation points

I am always sceptical about such “rankings” - but it is interesting to see that Jack Crisp is rated as the best small/medium defender in the AFL and one of the top 50 players.

When Crisp ranked well last year, people scoffed that it was because he was classified as a defender but was receiving in effect a bonus for midfield time, with midfielders hogging all the obvious stats. We might want to check out how his defender ranking compares this year to last year, because now much of his midfield time may have gone out of the ranking window. If his ranking has been maintained or improved, that'd be a good sign. QM67, do you have that info?

Does Mr. C.D. Scrooge provide you with effective long kicks?

Agree with QM67. Forwards or midfielders could be on the end of a piece of play and find themselves a metre out
