Podcasts,

Basically audio only recordings of interviews or people discussing topics. There's all kinds of them out there, of every genre you could want. Mark (Howie) Howard does a great series of interviews with different sports people of which I've heard parts of on the radio. Even fkn online news sources are now putting up links to pod casts instead of printing the text.

I can't get into them. I just don't work that way, I can't take in information listening to someone speak unless my eyes have something to do.

I listen to music but I'll be reading a book, using a computer or something else at the same time, the music is in the background not the forefront. Even in school, the teacher could only hold my concentration for so long before I'd just read the text book and skip ahead while they droned in the background.

I guess I'm visually oriented for how I take in information.

My cuz who's a musician when he's not driving trucks, downloads podcasts and audio books to listen to while he's driving. I'd rather crash the truck.

Does anyone actually listen to these things? If so, what kind? What's your genre and favourites? Maybe i can find something I can actually listen to.

I don't listen as much as I used to but I'm walking more than I used to so it's a good opportunity.

ABC: "Late Night Live" with Phillip Adams is a favourite, such an erudite man & his interviews are mostly informative and entertaining as I tend to miss them on radio national. Last week I listened to two episodes:

One had a bloke who has recently written a biography of Billy McMahon: Bipartisanly known as Australia's worst ever Prime Minister. Menzies refered to him as a "conniving little twerp". However delving into his family life (His mother doed when Billy was a young boy) I found riveting. In another episode, a historian was talking about Oliver Cromwell (noted to be more machiavllan than Machiavelli)! Both were simply fascinating.

"This American Life" was a favourite but I'm less enarmoured about than I was. Some shows are simpy terrific while others are less so. A while back I isletend to two shows: one was abou a guy (the presenter) being taken to a used car salesyard and his Dad bought him a car: dad treated the son as though ad knew everyhting etc. The son eventually got his own car. The next show was about used car salesmen and thr opressure they were under doing it in situ. Fascinating and riveting. (My descriptions don't do it justice; like trying to write about music & not listening to it)

Spin offs from This American Life like S town are pretty amazing but I haven' t followed through with them.

Yes but only while I'm doing brain dead things at work or on long drives.

During the Footy season I listen to "Jock & Journo" which is a podcast with Jay Clarke and Pendles discussing mainly football and a bit of Pendles personal stuff like how the new house build is going on, his son Jax etc. The other is "Sports galore with Adam Treloar" in this one, they talk about all mainstream sports, not just AFL.

During the non Football season, I have started listening to true crime podcasts.

I listen to a few film podcasts from time to time, including one I've guested on you can hear that episode here:

Otherwise, I often listen to Chapo Trap House, a US political comedy podcast often provides some good insights into American political issues from a democratic socialist vantage point (which means plenty of mockery of 'liberals' and Democrats, for people who are into that kind of thing). Here's a recent excerpt:

Listen to some political podcasts, but most of them only relate to American politics.
