I'll be absolutely amazed if Treloar plays senior footy this year. Even if he's right in 4 weeks he'll need at least a couple of vfl games before being thrust into any finals. Seems very unlikely at this stage

Treloar ain’t busting his ass all day everyday t get back to play VFL. If he’s passed fit he’ll come straight in.

I imagine limited playing time in vfl would be part of being passed fit, match fit, that is. You don't throw a player straight into a final after missing 12 weeks of footy, he's not Scott Pendlebury.

Actually, just saw him listed as 5-6 weeks away which puts him back in last week or two of September. That's really cutting it fine, we might just him in the GF, earliest.. or perhaps a replay.. Wink

If we make it that far, I reckon Treloar would be a great inclusion in the Prelim final. That would allow us to get him fully fit and recovered, without trying to rush him back any earlier. If we finish top 4 (as I expect) and win our first game, we automatically go into the Prelim. If we lose our opening final, we'd have a second chance against a 5-8th finishing team. We should win that, and then go into a Prelim. Getting Treloar back for the Prelim would give our team a huge psychological boost.

Time to start looking at the finals 22 for real now. A couple of changes from last week, but not much has changed. Really just need a quality shut down full back and we need to settle on who the extra small defender will be.

Crisp [Moore/Madgen/McLarty] Maynard
Langdon Howe [Appleby/Murray]
Aish Pendles Phillips
Stevo Mihocek DeGoey
WHE Cox Thomas

Grundy Adams Sidey

Sier, Mayne, Greenwood, Varcoe

Not bad!

^^ Might be interesting to compare this to your (or others) best 22 posts back in March/April.

Well for a start, it likely had some of Treloar, Scharenberg, Dunn, Goldsack, Moore, Elliot, and Wells in the side!

I have been famous this year for my best 22 (meaning i made them on an almost weekly basis). I think i might have declared at the start of the season that we had 14 studs and needed to find 8 more. Anyway, from memory, i would say this is what my best 22 looked at the start of the year.

Langdons, Dunn, Maynard
Howe, Reid, Scharenberg
Aish, Treloar, Sidey
DeGoey, Moore, Elliot
WHE, [Cox], Stevo

Grundy Pendles, Adams

Crisp, Wells, Varcoe, Greenwood

The reason i have cox in brackets is because i think i might have given him the nod at FF only begrudgingly because there was literally no one else.

those that i for sure didnt think were best 22 who probably are now are:

Phillips, Sier, Mihocek, Thomas and Mayne.

I still dont think that our full back or our back flanker are best 22.

So am i allowed to discuss this topic now? Assuming Howe makes it back, we still have the two spots up for grabs. Moore and Murphy would be my pick if we can get them on the park.

Crisp [Moore/Madgen] Maynard
Langdon Howe [Murphy/Appleby/Murray]
Aish Pendles Phillips
Stevo Mihocek DeGoey
WHE Cox Thomas

Grundy Adams Sidey

Sier, Mayne, Greenwood, Varcoe

Blokes will start getting very unlucky from here-on in; and that's how it should be leading into September.

Every time we play Moore, we lose. Usually, we also cop an extra injury in the last quarter caused by the exhaustion of playing most of the day with depleted numbers on the bench.

Until we know that Moore is a reasonable chance to stay on the park for the entire game, I'd rather pick someone else. Anyone else. Until further notice, I'd rather select Appleby, Madgen, Oxley, Daicos, Brown, Murphy, Murray, or Blair.

Moore has been selected to play for us 8 times in 2018. Of these 8 games we:

- Lost 6
- Won 1 against a basket-case club which still gave us a big fright (Brisbane - this was Round 7, remember, before the Brions bigged up and started playing half-decent football).
- Won 1 when Moore broke down during the warm-up and was replaced by Daicos two minutes before the opening bounce.

So of the 7 games he has actually started, he has a 1 - 6 win loss record. Of the 8 games he was selected for, he has gone off injured in 50% of them, and had no real impact in the other 4, 3 of which we lost.

A great talent and I like him a lot. Yes, even the haircut. If he can get his body right, he could go All-Australian. But we cannot afford to select him again until he has played three games in a row without injury at reserves or pre-season comp level. Play Moore in finals? Reid would be a safer bet - and you know how Reid's injuries have cost us in finals.

Here it is!!! Only changes if we can get any of Moore, Treloar or Goldsack up and about. Might need Madgen or McLarty against Eagles.

Crisp Howe Maynard
Appleby Langdon Murphy
Aish Pendles Phillips
Stevo Mihocek DeGoey
WHE Cox Thomas

Grundy Adams Sidey

Sier, Mayne, Greenwood, Varcoe

Not so much competition for that HBF now.

Crisp Moore Maynard
Langdon Howe Murphy
Sidebottom Pendles Phillips
Stephenson Mihocek DeGoey
WHE Cox Thomas

Grundy, Treloar, Adams

Aish, Sier, Mayne, Varcoe

Emerg: Greenwood, Appleby, Magden

Moore is behind Treloar to return in terms of his fitness. Accordingly we may require Magden in for now against West Coast given their size up forward.

Treloar was doing stoppage work at training yesterday as well as kicking and hard running and I think will play in Rd 1 of the finals.
He was at the club again today too, presumably doing gym work.

How about we all be super clever little people and rename every thread Best 22? Why? Because even though some have never had an original idea in their life, we all need to be little heroes......
