Post subject: Collingwood: What are we now?
|
Looking at the club's post about the member's information night, I was struck by the blandness of the new Collingwood logo/banner.
It seems to me that in search of extra government funding for women's sport, we have made a short term gain, but have potentially done long term damage to our 'brand'. FFS, we are the Collingwood Football Club. My other team, the Liverpool Football club is known the world over as Liverpool FC and they would never for one moment consider tampering with its identity..
We sacrificed our traditions and our history, when we decided to abandon our spiritual home Victoria Park as our training base. Despite problems with local residents and council, Liverpool FC never ever considered abandoning Anfield, because it is part of what they are. For all their faults, the Brits seem to value their history and traditions much more than we do. For instance, despite only holding 20,000 people, test cricket will always be played at Lords, not Wembley, where much, much more money could be made. History counts. Tradition counts. Culture counts.
Don't get me wrong, I've got no problem having women's netball and footy associated with our club, but they must ALWAYS play a secondary and back seat role to our prime identity as The Collingwood Football Club.
Mark my words, in a few years time, maybe 5-10 years, our club will admit they were wrong to abandon our identity as The Collingwood FC, and it will be re-established.
Over to you Ed. |

West Ham left Boleyn, Tottenham left White Hart Lane, Arsenal left Arsenal Stadium.
Thats 3 of the 4 biggest clubs in London, with Chelsea staying at Stamford Bridge since 1905. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

I'm not a fan of the logo, but I do not understand the OP's grievance.
We're still widely known as the 'Collingwood Football Club' and our company name is 'Collingwood Football Club Limited'. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
