Oh P4S, does no-one escape your wrath? First Nick Cave, now Bowie... Wink

I don't actually mind Bowie - I have that album, amongst others. But you're quite right, the first "musician" into space without a suit should certainly be Nick Cave.

I have a soft spot for Nick Cave, ever since he killed Kylie Minogue.

Media are reporting Tesla made a billion-dollar quarterly loss.
Hmm...

More Murdochs! What joy.

Musk is certainly a loose unit, though. Not surprised Tesla are trying to limit his presence (seems like he'll still effectively be the face of the company, however).

Probably belongs more in the WTF thread, but how the hell did Musk win this case?

Because the US is different from Australia.

e.g.

Man who paid councillor Sam Aziz $80,000 for defamation wants his money back

"Jury foreman Joshua Jones said Mr Unsworth's legal team were unable to prove their case and should have focused more on the evidence."

What more evidence is required than the tweets?

"Expect the JDart "standard" to be applied again and again, not just in libel trials, but in any arena where social media behaviour is under scrutiny - a parachute for anyone who, in the heat of the moment, says something idiotic online."

Yeah, but not in Australia...

A brief tweet, soon deleted, that was just obscure enough to be able to raise doubt about intent, would have had a hard time being defamatory in any jurisdiction. With the US right to Free Speech enshrined in the constitution, snowballs chance.

Now if Musk had explicitly accused the guy of being a paedophile you potentially have a different discussion

^ Wait, are you seriously suggesting he didn’t?

https://www.theverge.com/2019/12/4/20994895/elon-musk-testimony-vernon-unsworth-tweet-negligence-la-courthouse

Quote:
Not only did Musk call Unsworth a “pedo guy,” Wilson pointed out, when Kevin Beaumont sarcastically called the tweet “classy,” Musk replied “bet you a signed dollar it’s true.” (The “signed dollar” tweet has also been deleted.)

Musk apologized on July 17, but that wasn’t the end of it. Wilson rather irritably told the court that despite the apology, Musk did not retract his “worldwide accusation on Twitter” that Unsworth was a pedophile. Wilson then told the court that Musk’s family office retained a PI to look into Unsworth and on August 28th, instructed the investigator to leak negative information to the press. (It would later emerge that the PI was, in fact, a con man.)

There were a few other subsequent events Wilson brought up to show that Musk must have been serious about calling Unsworth a pedophile: a reply to Drew Olanoff saying “you don’t think it’s strange he [Unsworth] hasn’t sued me?” and an email to BuzzFeed News reporter Ryan Mac where Musk called Unsworth a “child rapist.”
