From the club:
Quote: | TEST:
D. Moore (Hamstring)
SEASON:
T. Broomhead (Leg)
L. Dunn (Knee)
K. Kirby (Heart)
M. Scharenberg (Knee)
D. Wells (Foot)
J. Elliott (Hamstring) |
This is the healthiest we've been all year.
Sier and De Goey given the all clear. Moore listed as a test and looks to be ready to go.
Selection going to be interesting. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

I note C. Cavanagh claims "Richmond's stunning injury run is down to good management rather than good luck." Has anyone read his article? Does it have any substance or is it fluff? |

I hope that is right as I was concerned that Sier wasn't going to come up for this week. He's been a revelation as an inside mid and has become really important. I won't say that he can't be replaced but we don't have anyone else that goes about it in the same way that he does. |

So it seems that they'll be no change. I wonder who the emergencies will be? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

How Pies, Eagles overcame 2018 injury curse
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/how-pies-eagles-overcame-2018-injury-curse-20180928-p506l0.html
"In 2018 Collingwood were the AFL's second-worst-hit team in terms of injuries to players in their "best 22", and fourth across their entire list.
...
Treloar knew. He was pushing for a late-season return and on more than one occasion he was spotted leaving the club medical offices close to tears when he wasn't given the all clear to step up training. The fact he got back for the qualifying final and played so well in the semi and preliminary finals is miraculous." |

A delayed pre season sucks, but Howe will be ok for round one.
Of these guys:
Quote: | T. Broomhead (Leg)
L. Dunn (Knee)
K. Kirby (Heart)
M. Scharenberg (Knee)
D. Wells (Foot)
J. Elliott (Hamstring) |
Who will be ready and playing either VFL or AFL in round one?
Obviously Berg and Dunn will be looking at mid/late season returns. Kirby and Broomhead might now even be on the list? Will Wells and Elliott finally be ready to go? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Instagram pics (club website) show that Howe is holidaying in Italy with arm in sling. It does mean the surgery is being delayed. |

Lucas on Kirby:
"He's going really well (health wise), but from a football point of view, it's still a discussion taking place with the relevant heart specialists and the club," Lucas said.
"(Continuing to play) football may be a challenge, but quality of life, so forth, he has full clearance there.
"I wouldn't say he'll be delisted, I would think the (medical) advice would be he's no longer able to play at the highest level because of his condition."

"Training return: The first to fourth-year players will kick off the Pies’ pre-season campaign on November 19. The club’s senior players will return on December 3.
Injury list: Lynden Dunn is bullish about making a round one return, but a more cautious approach will be taken with fellow knee victim Matt Scharenberg, who is unlikely to play until mid-season. Jeremy Howe isn't likely to join training until after Christmas following shoulder surgery, but it is hoped that Daniel Wells' foot problem won't hamper his preparations. There are concerns about the ongoing hamstring issues of talented pair Jamie Elliott and Darcy Moore, while there is optimism that Jordan De Goey’s lower leg bone stress will have been cured by rest."

Concussion effects 'felt like my head was going to blow off'
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-05/concussion-effects-felt-like-my-head-was-going-to-blow-off
"Probably the worst of it was last year, where I couldn't come into the club for maybe six months because I was waking up feeling like I was in a washing machine.
"Any time I did exercise and my heart rate went up felt like my head was going to blow off my shoulders.
"My personality changed a great deal. My partner Kaz, just ask her how much of a pain I was to deal with.
"I think that's the hardest bit. A lot of people don't really understand how bad it actually got. In a way it's relieving, but it's frustrating that it has to come to this." |

Pies duo in Germany for special treatment with hamstring guru
http://www.afl.com.au/news/2018-11-19/pies-duo-in-germany-for-special-treatment-with-hamstring-guru
"They will consult Bayern Munich head doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt, regarded as one of the world's leading experts in hamstring injuries.
... Moore and Elliott will search for answers under the watchful eye of club doctor Ruben Branson.
The duo completed running at the Holden Centre last week, building a fitness base in preparation for the European trip.
The Pies have enjoyed a long association with the former German national football team doctor, with swingman Ben Reid assessed for his soft-tissue setbacks in 2015."
[H-W M-W is more controversial than the article indicates.] |
