Over the last two weeks the team has won well and for the first time in ages the team is developing confidence and belief in themselves. This attitude and the heart it can bring into a game can very much influence the ultimate outcome.

If we lose I hope it is a close loss. If we are beaten convincingly it could certainly set us back a long way and that in many respects could be devistating.

Go Pies

Let’s hope we flog them

Richmond are playing with the confidence of a premiership side and lift a gear when required.

Not all might be big names (well not yet) but they have so many avenues to goal and most of them are coupled with speed and/or provide great defensive efforts.

They'll take some beating and makes a win tomorrow all the more important.

Richmond certainly was impressive tonight. They appear to have supreme fitness, coupled with a few players who are almost impossible to tackle effectively. However what appears to be the foundation of their play is an amazing system/structure which enables them to always be at the contest. they are absolute masters of the contested ball. When you are at the ball, you can also apply effective tackles, so their tackling pressure is likewise massive, because they tackle exactly at the right instant of time. When they win the ball, which frequently occurs, they move the ball very often through the centre, with an equal combination of handball and kicks
How is it that they create this structure? I think that Richmond tend to play much more a one on one game. They don't guard territory so much as their physcial opponents. I am optimistic, because our game against Adelaide exhibited these same characteristics. We displayed a similar kind of organizational structure which allowed us to compete aggressively at all times for the contested ball.
We will beat Essendon if we play in the same way. Our midfield needs to strangle their supply forward by this same pressure for the contested ball. It is not up to Dunne, Shaz and Langdon etc to stop their tall forwards...it is up to the team pressure and defence we saw last weekend.
Richmond has a forward set up with basically one tall (Riewoldt) and a whole armada of small forwards and mids who swarm in, and apply massive F50 pressure. As a result, they get a very wide range of goal kickers. Again, this seems to be our trend, since we began playing our midfielders as rotating forwards. I would love to see Crocker step up by kicking more goals. He applies terrific pressure, and gets into good position, but just needs to find an avenue to goal more often. Hope he can do it tomorrow. Go Pies!!

As expected, Pies name an unchanged side for Anzac Day (Emergencies: Blair, McLarty, Sier, Appleby).

Good call, after a long break, and gives us the opportunity to make some changes with the upcoming short turnaround.

Pies by 30 points.

I feel more heavily invested in this ANZAC clash more than most years. Being down so long, close so many times, criticisms on every move and decision the pies make. Then to play a club that knowingly engaged in drug cheating but a few years latter look like the Teflon Dons.
I expect the players will take the game seriously but wonder if recent history isn't adding a little extra something.

Every poster acknowledge the fact of the importance of this win

A good win. 8th place and a fragile buffer against sides trying to catch us

A thumping win 7th place and a more robust buffer

But to really add cement to the mix.

Back it up next Sunday against those arrogant SOB mob

Watching some Anzac match memories on Collingwood Media and the 2008 one with Medhurst kicking 6 goals and winning medal —wearing the #7

There’s a challenge Adam

always a fan of Medhurst - bummed we didn't get more of his time. Years at Freo and injuries but when he was on it was a thing of beauty

I am looking forward to the game and it is just a game. The day is a special day and a good friend Steve and his daughter will be performing with Mike Brady. They have written/produced a song This Place”. It’s dedicated to our Service Men and Women, both past and present. I wrote it as a reminder of what the RSL has done over the years, and continues to do, for all those who have served, and in particular, those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Lest We Forget.

Go Pies!!!
