One close observer, who knows Lynch, said that the player was "looking for reasons to stay, rather than reasons to go".

I am not surethat what anyone does after footy should concern us. Assume after fees etc the player averages 1.2 million over 10 years.

That would include some endorsements etc.

So at 30 years of age he may be married (to a babe) and have 2 kids. A kid from Sorrento should be then have

A house on the peninsula. 4 bedroom. swimming pool A few acres with home cinema, triple garage. ride on mower, a decent yacht (say 6 berth). a jetski or 2 , maybe a few horses etc.
Wife does not work unless you include coffee with the girls in Prahran as work.
A decent 3-4 bed property on the Gold Coast. With home gym etc.
Paid for his parents home.
A BMW SUV for the kids to go to kinder
A Latest model sportscar
Shares in racehorses
No Hecs debt
No mortgage
Membership at Portsea Golf club.
A share portfolio of around 4 million dollars
Free everything at training etc.
Free workclothes
Freebies left and right to sporting events and marquees
His missus gets free stuff from Chadstone or Chapel Street for the Brownlow etc.
Executive loungs status at airlines. meaning more freebies on accommodation.
Education trusts set up for kids through some dodgy tax deal
Free medical including surgery etc and no waiting list

If he has a premiership or 2 or 3 and a Brownlow add 2 million to the bank.

Free financial and business advice from wealthy supporters (and the odd ground floor deals)

Compare that with the average Joe who now at 30 is just forging a career, has maybe a HECs debt, madly trying to find a an affordable place to buy and set up a family own one car but paying off another. With parents (2 lots) transitioning to retirement. Who loves taking his family to the footy but can.t do it weekly because of interste trip costs, night games are bad for the kids, the kids play sport Sunday morning making an early game no good. Anyway a family of 4 with seats, a drink and a snack each for the kids as a treat, parking (because no PT to help), a record each for the kids and perhaps a stop at Maccas on the way home blows the budget out the window.

If Lynch or anyone else on this coin needs transition to life after footy then thats what a manager is for. He and his mates have all the free time to study and not to mention the off season travel. And that without all the coaching positions available after retirement.

Life after footy. 30 years with all the kick start in the world before early retirement .

Put yourself in Lynch's shoes when he turns 35. He has all the money he will ever need in life. He has a good job having retired from football. What he doesn't have is a premiership because he stayed too long at a club in Gold Coast that realistically will never win a premiership, because they have an admin on an ego trip, where it's all about them and not the club. The AFL can step in all they like into the Gold Coast club, but it will take forever to change their culture. The AfL stepped in and helped Melbourne out and look at them. They're still about 10 years away from a premiership despite all the hype about the Lever recruitment.

So if Lynch wants what every AFL footballer wants, which is an AFL premiership, he needs to cast his eye at another club. Richmond and Geelong are the two obvious clubs that offer that. We are the other alternative. Money is a distraction to what every AFL footballer wants, which is a flag. It's what drives every AFL footballer.
