In the other game, the Pats chose to beat the Titans 35:14. Remarkably, the Titans led early. The Pats and the Eagles will host the respective Championship games next week

So, the Jaguars beat the Steelers 45:42 in a shoot out. How does this happen? Big Ben threw 5 TDs and still couldn’t get his hapless defence over the line. Jack Lambert and Mean Joe were badly missed today.

And the Vikes beat the Saints on a literally last-second touchdown. Thrilling stuff. So, the NFC Championship game will be Minnesota Vikings at Philadelphia Eagles and the AFC will be Jacksonville Jaguars at New England Patriots. Both games will be playend next Monday, AEDST.

So, the Pats came from 10 points behind to beat the Jags to the AFC Championship and the Eagles trounced the Vikings for the NFC title. I didn’t like the way the Jags’ defence played (the hit on Rob Gronkowski stopped me hoping the Jags would win and I found myself barracking, instead, for New England to get up). In the other game, Keenum sliced through the Eagles’ defence on the opening drive like a knife through butter - it was remarkable that the Vikes could not score again after that sparkling start.

Superbowl will be Monday week, our time. Eagles v Pats in Minnesota.

Was the hit a premeditated dirty act?
The refereeing has generated some rumblings. Thoughts?

Like the ball, one should be pumped up but instead is left feeling a bit deflated.

Look, it was helmet to helmet and concussed the one player that no one on the Jags defence could match up on, so I’d seemed like it was more than just a coincidence. It may not have been intentional, I suppose, but it was the very kind of hit they’ve been pushing to remove from the game and it shouldn’t have happened. I enjoy seeing a good defence stop the opposition and one accepts it is a contact sport and people will be hurt from time to time but that looked intentional to me. Up until that point, I was hoping the Jags would stop Brady and that they would work out a way to stop Gronkowski dominating. It is interesting that the Pats adjusted their defensive game after being opened up early and completely closed down the Jags’ offence in the last quarter but did not do so by taking great (or any) players down outside the rules.

It's the eve of the Superbowl, so it's been the day for the awards.

Here's the Hall of Fame outcome for 2018: http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22310747/pro-football-hall-fame-class-2018-includes-ray-lewis-randy-moss-terrell-owens-brian-dawkins-brian-urlacher

And Old Tom has been named MVP again, earning 40 of the available votes (that is, one vote for every year of his age): http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22311268/tom-brady-new-england-patriots-claims-nfl-mvp-honors

And the most important news to emerge is about the Great One addressing the Eagles in advance of the game (Doug Pederson, the Eagles' coach, is an old mate of his): http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22311639/super-bowl-lii-brett-favre-addresses-philadelphia-eagles-eve-super-bowl

Surely the Eagles, having touched the hem of No 4's cloak, can't possibly lose?

Has Gronkowski recovered enough to play?

To what extent do you think the game (in general, but also this one specifically) will or can be determined by just one or two players on each side (e.g. QB)?

As I stated previously, I'm feeling rather conflicted about Old Tom, the coach, and the team.

Yes Gronk is playing just caught his 2nd TD with 9 minutes to go in last term to give the Pats the lead for the first time in the game.
Already over 1000 yards of offence in the game thus far.
Brady just looks to be doing as he pleases now

And then it all changed...

I think Tom & coach pushed it too far and crossed the line in the past.
Hence my conflicted feelings.

Well done to the Eagles. Channeling Craig Starcevich, Nick Foles pushed his team to put 41 points on the Board and, despite a fine performance, Brady could only manage 33. Foles was named Super Bowl 52 MVP.. i wonder where he’lll play next year.

And, in other news, Tom has been embroiled in Kissgate.
And Gronkowski is considering retirement and Hollywood.

Thoughts?
