Pom probelm not ours. If he is allowed to tour and cocks up heads will roll. If he doesn't and gets to bowl his pies at Adelaide and Melbourne well they smack him. I have zero concern for ginger bearded tattoo twats

No need to read anything. Just watch the security video. Says all you need to know.

I'm also disturbed by articles by the UK press like the following by Paul Hayward, where they whinge so much about alleged propaganda and make light of Stokes's actions:

http://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/ashes-201718-australias-merciless-use-of-propaganda-to-publicly-shame-england-was-planned--and-comedy-is-the-best-response-20180110-h0g74b.html

Hayward describes the writing of George Dobell as "excellent". Well, Dobell on cricinfo really said some utterly disgraceful things in defence of what Stokes did, so one wonders what such praise says about Hayward.

What a load of crap.

Quote:
In the same news cycle, Steve Smith made sure he exploited Ben Stokes's absence on disciplinary grounds, saying: "I certainly don't condone that kind of behaviour [Stokes was arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm after an incident outside a Bristol nightclub in September]."

Smith got asked a question about Stokes not playing the Ashes and gave a measured answer. He was diplomatic, not conniving or exploitative.

This dude needs to stop looking for excuses. I thought England played reasonably well and, if Stokes was available, probably would've gone 1 up in Brisbane and possibly taken Adelaide. As it was, England got beaten by a team, like most others, that's better on it's own dunghill.

Greg Baum responds:

Baum refers to "the Telegraph's usually sage Paul Hayward".

Breaking news:

http://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/crown-prosecution-service-charges-england-cricketer-ben-stokes-with-affray-20180115-h0ir9z.html
Quote:

England cricketer Ben Stokes has been charged with affray following an incident in the city of Bristol last September, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said on Monday.

Stokes, 26, and two other men are due to appear before Bristol Magistrates' Court at a date to be fixed.
...

The CPS said Avon and Somerset police had passed on a file of evidence on November 29 in relation to the incident, which left a 27-year-old man with a fractured eye socket, and further material was received in late December.
...

Quote:
...
The development comes more than three months after Stokes was arrested in Bristol on September 25, on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm following an altercation outside a Bristol nightclub. He has now been charged by the CPS with the public order offence of affray, which can carry with it a jail term of up to three years.

"The CPS was passed a file of evidence by Avon and Somerset Police on 29 November 2017 in relation to an incident of disorder in Bristol city centre," a CPS spokesman said. "Further material was subsequently received in late December. Following a review of all the available evidence, the CPS has today (Mon, 15 Jan) authorised the police to charge three men with affray in connection to the incident."
...

A statement said: "ECB is aware that Ben Stokes has been charged with affray in relation to an incident in Bristol in September. The board will now convene within 48 hours to decide on Ben Stokes' availability to represent England at this stage."

I wasn't previously aware of all the things George Dobell said on twitter regarding Ben Stokes.
Having seen some of his past twitter comments, I now think

George Dobell should have been fired on the spot by cricinfo.

Disgraceful beyond words...

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/22129600/stokes-cleared-return-england

Quote:
Ben Stokes has been made available for England selection, following a meeting of the ECB Board, despite being charged with affray on Monday in relation to the incident outside a Bristol nightclub on September 25.
...

"Following a full Board discussion, in which all considerations were taken into account, the ECB Board has agreed that Ben Stokes should now be considered for England selection," read an ECB statement.

"Given the CPS decision to charge him and two others with affray, confirmation of his intention to contest the charge and the potential length of time to trial, the Board agreed that it would not be fair, reasonable or proportionate for Ben Stokes to remain unavailable for a further indeterminate period.
...

"ECB confirmed in December that the independent Cricket Discipline Commission [CDC] would stay the internal disciplinary process for both Alex Hales and Ben Stokes until the conclusion of court proceedings relating to the incident."

Apparently "all considerations were taken into account" is code for "we feared being sued for restraint of trade".

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2018/01/17/ben-stokes-return-england-t20-side-next-month-suspension-lifted/

Quote:
...
The ECB’s executive board made its decision over the course of several teleconference calls - chairman Colin Graves is on holiday in New Zealand at the moment - with disagreement among the 14 members over the way forward. But the senior executive of Graves, Tom Harrison and Andrew Strauss were unanimous that he should be made available for selection, once they heard legal advice.

There was also pressure from the England team management who are keen to have Stokes back playing again after losing the Ashes without him. He retains the strong support of coach Trevor Bayliss, Test captain Joe Root and is a popular member of the team.
...

The ECB’s lawyers warned it could take up to 18 months for the trial to reach crown court and suspending him for that long might lead to legal action for restraint of trade by Stokes.

It would be costly financially to fight the case and the negative publicity it would attract as well as the strain it would put on the relationship between the ECB and Stokes, were all concerns for the board.
...

Simon Heffer's take
(http://www.telegraph.co.uk/cricket/2018/01/17/ecb-trivialising-ben-stokes-incident-ending-suspension-shows/):

Quote:
A man is innocent until proved guilty, and that applies to Ben Stokes. However, the notion that a man facing a charge of affray - a crime sufficiently serious to carry the possibility of a prison sentence for anyone convicted of it - should blithely be picked to play cricket for England is profoundly damaging for the game, its ideals and its place in our culture.
...

Whatever the conclusion as to Stokes's guilt or innocence, by saying he can play, the ECB is effectively trivialising the incident. That shows an unpleasant degree of arrogance towards the law. It makes a mockery of the already debauched idea of cricket as a metaphor for life. Strip away the last vestiges of cricket as one of the trappings of civilisation, and the game starts to lose its point.
...

Test cricket already has one foot in the grave: it is hardly intelligent to seek a means of tipping the rest of the body into the hole, too. Obsessed with money as the ECB is, it is hardly surprising that it has thrown propriety to the winds and called up Stokes.
...

Sadly, the ECB is making rather a habit of taking decisions about the management of the game that almost everyone apart from itself realises are damaging cricket.
...

The counties and MCC should stop rattling their begging bowls long enough to hold the ECB more to account.

At this rate, English cricket will need a reputation manager more than a better coach.

Stokes is due at Bristol magistrates’ court on 13 February...

Stokes will be unable to push this court date back. But, once a trial date is set, a request can be put in to delay proceedings. That will need to include supporting evidence from the ECB. A decision is then made at the magistrate’s discretion. ... He will not be able to offer a plea in absentia and, according to a CPS spokesperson, must attend court on the date and issue a plea.

It seems that The Sun's video footage has been very recently removed for "legal reasons"!
How curious... It's not as if one cannot still see the full minute on various other channels. It's not clear to me what legal reasons there might be for such an action.
