Anyone seen the new film Mother? I'm not usually into horror films, but it looks pretty interesting.

Worst.

Film.

Ever.

Honestly that was the biggest pile of pretentious horse shit I've ever seen.

If I'm not sophisticated and intelligent enough to get whatever the underlying message was meant to be then long may it continue.

0 stars.

Room.

Unbelievable movie. About a Jaycee Lee Dugard situation. Very moving and thought provoking. I’ve read Jaycees book and a couple of other similar ones. The movie is more about recovery from the situation, than what actually happened during captivity. Very well done, it’s on Netflix.

Honestly, I think it's worse when you hear what the message was supposed to be (spoiler: he's God and she's mother Earth, or so says the director).

WTF?

Have you seen it David?

Even you might struggle. LOL.

The best I could come up with after watching it was it was meant to represent somehow the pain of a miscarriage to a woman

Actually I'm not entirely sure if that was my idea or I vaguely recalled reading it somewhere prior to viewing it myself.

In reality my review would be this.

The first 30 minutes of Mother was like taking a good dump.

It was satisfying in the moment.

However fast forward an hour and that dump has long been forgotten, it was flushed away and is now just part of a greater collection of shite.

0 stars.

I didn’t hate it that much, but I was certainly disappointed, particularly after how much I loved Black Swan. I love allegorical art, but a film has to be able to stand on its own two feet regardless; Mother just seemed too in love with its own metaphors. I liked it when it was purely absurd and nightmarish, but the film as a whole just didn’t do enough for me.

2010: The Year We Make Contact, i.e. the sequel nobody wanted. It’s not as bad as you’d think, but it sure is weird. Spoiler warning: Jupiter explodes!

Bridge of spies with Tom Hanks, not my normal fare, I bought it for hubby. Well he fell asleep, I did too in the first hour but only momentarily! Well gees so worth hanging in there! Hanks as usual is brilliant, the story was mesmerising, based on true events, and I was actually cheering him on at the end! Really excellent.

Jumunji with the Rock. It was OK, hard to compete with the Robin Williams original. Watchable, 5.5/10.

Saw the promos for this when we went to see that latest Star Wars. Looked interesting and has had good reviews.

The Big Sick - Based on a true story with the lead actor playing himself. Probably a bit long and some may find parts a bit slow but it is very enjoyable and performances by all the leads are great. 8/10.

Logan Lucky - Fun heist movie with a twist. A bit different and may not appeal to everyone but once again I though the leads - Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig - were great. 8.5/10

Watched "Logan Lucky" the other night, it wasn't bad. I did love the bar fight near the start.

Saw the latest Kingsman movie yesterday (trying to use up a dozen Gold Class vouchers before they expire!).

Haven't seen the first one but the new one was pretty good, some pretty far fetched scenes but enjoyable overall. 7/10

The 1st one was awesome, can't wait to se the new one! (next weekend)

Just watched the 2nd one, was great!

luvdids... how did you know what was going on without seeing the 1st one? Laughing Laughing

I dunno, didn't really feel like I missed out not having seen the first.. figured out the Colin Firth bit, they helped with that one, otherwise, rest sort of seemed pretty clear I guess. When I eventually watch the first one there might be a few 'a-ha' moments! Wink

I enjoyed it, and could barely remember the plot of the first one, it was easy to pick up.

Really?

It was quirky and entertaining enough but it was just a mixed bag of movie genres for mine and had no lasting depth.

It's a bad year for cinema if that wins best picture IMHO.
