Yeah, been back since mid October, leaving Melbourne’s spring just in time for the English winter - which might be a legal definition of insanity. Top temperature yesterday was 2 deg, lights on at 4pm. Ugh.

Well, yes and no. We did an hour's yomping through the frosty mud of the Thames in Buckinghamshire today with some mates, then settled down to a pint or two of dark British ale in a fifteenth century pub with a roaring open fire and great food, while watching the mist descend outside. I have learned, despite it all, to make my peace with the English winter on account of things like this. By early March, though, I'll be desperate for some sun and hopefully heading for Melbourne !

Yeh, like most things in life, a little outdoor difficulty and sharpness makes drowsy softness sweeter. And hard winters make you feel just a little more alive than fat, seedy summers. English winters, the pale low sun, bare trees, and steely mists are just made for warm (actually room temperature) ales, dark centuries-old beams and the tang of woodsmoke. And if you like hot toddy try a hot buttered rum. Nothing thaws down into the boots as well as that !

Finish work tomorrow.

This past week has been the weirdest experience, trying to transfer knowledge and doing handovers, all the people in my area know I'm leaving but most don't as there's still been no announcement. Boss keeping it low key.

So I basically finished up all the work today, including a final handover to the boss. Tomorrow I go in, clean out my personal stuff and put it in the car then have a farewell morning tea with the team (which I didn't ask for but appreciate). Then take the car home and taxi back to Box Hill to hand in my ID and phone and have a few beers with whoever shows up.

Bonus happiness, looking at getting the holiday house restumped as one side has dropped seriously over the years. The good part of how it currently is, is if you drink too much in the lounge room it's downhill all the way to bed.

So mob I found online quoted $20k. I emailed them and asked if they could just do part and try to get it under $10k, still waiting. So I tried a bloke who did my Uncles house and a mate of his up bush who came highly recommended. Doesn't advertise, relies on word of mouth.

$8k and he can do it before Xmas. Very Happy

Sold.

^ jeez, that suggests a helluva margin for the other guys. Just hope you won’t be staggering uphill to bed when you’re done.

Enjoy the break.

Yeah, the other mob is a fair size and do a lot of work. This bloke is a small but I've had good feedback on him. From the conversation i had with him, he knocked a bit off the price cos it suits him as it's close to home and means this can be his last job before Xmas and he can spend that home with the family. If he didn't do mine, his other job in the queue means he'll be away for Xmas as it's not a daily commute. I'm happy with the outcome.

Goodonya Stui, love your attitude. It’s really not worth getting pissed off or trying to assign blame. Enjoy your down time and plot a new course, cheers!
