Best wishes to the kid, hope he goes well.

But, if we're recruiting ex basketballers, we couldn't find a tall one? We're screaming out for KPP and we recruit yet another fkn mid size back. How many HBF can one list carry? Are we planning on pretending there's an offside rule next year and playing 10 players on the half back line FFS?

Hine said 'In addition to impressive defensive capabilities' what is Hine referring to - when he played footy until 18 or impressive in the basketball arena? Surely can't be Basketball as that game is played indoor, no wind, no rain, no grass, no sun, no studs, no slipping or sliding, no tackling, plenty of stop start running, a bit of jumping etc etc... If it's footy until 18, that was 6 years ago so was he impressive back then?

Anyway, for a guy that size, let's hope we become impressed with his achievements at Pie land.

He does have a footy pedigree and an uncle who may know a bit about him-

Barossa Herald Nov 28th. http://www.barossaherald.com.au/story/5087195/madgen-dons-magpie-colours/

Barossa District footballer Jack Madgen is now a Magpie.

Today, it was announced he has been signed as a category B rookie with the Collingwood Football Club for the 2018 campaign.

To be a category B rookie, a footballer needs to come from another sport and have not played our national code for three years.

Jack is the youngest of former Bulldogs footy club president Gene and Debs four children, hailing from Williamstown.

Older brother Ben is a highly respected professional basketballer in Europe, and sister Tess is a former Australian Opal. Tess is currently recovering from an ACL injury.

Jack last played football for Barossa District in the Barossa, Light and Gawler competition back in 2010.

Hed played underage (Under 17s) in the morning and A grade in the afternoon, rucking against men, and then Eastern Mavericks at night.

He was the joint winner of the 2010 Senior Colt Footballer of the Year.

Since then he has spent four years in America on a college basketball scholarship.

At 196cm, 95kg and guard in hoops, he is also a great kick for his size.

There is a huge family football history on mum Debs side.

His uncle Matthew Rendell is a 177 VFL/AFL game footballer with Fitzroy and the Brisbane Bears, while his cousin Mitchell Harvey was recently on the Power list for a couple of years and plays SANFL league football with North Adelaide.

Matt Rendell is currently on the Magpies staff.

Aunty Mel Rendell (Mitchells mum) who led the Barossa District senior one netball side to the 2007 premiership from fourth place, was a long term state league netballer.

Jacks oldest sister Carly played in that flag as well.

Uncle Tim Rendell also played SANFL league football with West Torrens and was recruited by Fitzroy, but didnt play VFL league football.

A very incestuous recruit if there was one!
