I'm not sure whether Kevin White having been a Buttifant boy is a good thing or a bad thing... Do we need outside voices in the fitness department, as we definitely do in the coaching department? (Of course, Kevin has also presumably been influenced by Davoren, but given that we got rid of Davoren...)
Here's Kevin from 5 years ago (starts at around 1:18 ):

The new direction Id like to see us go will be to move into the footy stuff as soon as possible, White explained.
Ive worked closely with the coaches skill acquisition coach Jamie Cassidy-McNamara to design drills which are football-related, but wont see too high intensity or a high change in direction early in the pre-season. Well gradually build up.
...
Rather than having two running groups which is split up into talls and smalls, well aim to have something like eight different running groups, in which we will drill down very individually what is required, White said.
An inside mid is so much different to a wing, which is so much different again to a key forward or key back. For that reason, we wont train them in the same way.
Were trying to create competition amongst the players who are going for similar spots in similar divisions, rather than having us barking orders and using time trials to bring the best out of them.
Theyll drive each to really high standards.

Haven't we heard that (more footy-focused) before? |

Running games out was not the biggest problem 2017 but more our ability
to achieve and maintain consistent concentration on decisions and ball use
And Kevin has said this part of prep has taken precedence over running and stuff
Get them kicking and skilling up till it's executed without hesitating _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Agree Bazboy, priorities:-
1. Goal Kicking
2. Goal Kicking
3. Goal Kicking
4. Kicking and hitting a leading target (need to minimise kicking backwards)
5. Kicking on opposite foot to a leading target
Would add another skill which needs improvement - our handballing. Too often under pressure Big Grundy and even Broomhead just forward tumble the ball instead of putting a backwards spin on it. Its good for them as they get a handball stat but often the receiver is in trouble as the ball is dipping to the ground as it gets to them. End result the receiver is under just as much pressure as they were when they handballed.
Nothing like the summer months to work on these areas for improvement... |

Better now to correct inefficient part of our game than in the heat of battle

But I recall that sort of thing being said a few years ago, which raises questions... e.g. did they not do what they claimed at the time? Or not enough? Or is this all just talk? |

learning to dispose of the ball effectively while fatigued is the secret to success. running without practicing football skills while fatigued is a waste of an opportunity. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

And correct when tired you your decision making suffers
Not as easy as I put down here but the reason why Boyd and Maxwell carved out an AFL career was dertermination under duress
Get a bit of that going be good _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

I know it's boring, but the only way of reducing errors in actual games of footy, is by repetitive drills in training. The second thing which comes from the senior coach, is to create new drills at training to liven things up, so players don't lose interest. |

100 percent. Which is why we need to recruit more footballers less track stars. Most footballers can improve fitness (picture big Sav or Cloke puffing their guts out after 1 burst, but lasting the whole game, or Swannie with his 10 min bursts that catapulted him to superstardom) but not all trackstars can be taught to kick or handpass! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

One would think so, but I'd like to see the data on how much aerobic capacity can be improved, compared with kicking skill.
I think Cloke always (until the last couple of years) had a high aerobic capacity for a man of his size.
On footballers vs. track stars, I'd think quite a few of our recruits in recent times count as neither (by elite standards). |
