19 years is far too long for one person to remain president but he keeps on keeping on. He's an autocratic dictator and rules with an iron fist. I suspect that no one dares to challenge him out of fear and not because he's the best man for the job. He represents a bygone era and we don't need his type anymore.
We need a new board with new ideas and a fresh perspective. We're old and stale. The buckley fiasco begins and ends with eddie mcguire. If buckley goes then eddie goes. It's as simple as that really and the longer he drags things out the more unrest and instability it creates. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he brings back yet another mate to coach and makes another captains call without following the proper processes. |
You write like there is another board waiting in the wings. There isn't. There is a mountain of work to do to even provide an alternative with a fresh perspective. This was always going to be the danger of nodding like lemmings for years on end: when the time comes for change you actually have no alternative.
Buckley will be coach next year and Ed will be president. Face facts. What are you going to do? Get all the social club members who eligible to vote to exercise their democratic rights? It's been so long, they have forgotten how to do it. As TISM once said "If you want the toilet, you're in it!". |
Again, a change of president next year will not make one iota of difference to the on field performance of the team. That can only come from better coaching, better list management and a certain amount of good luck (eg fewer injuries). |

Eddie back on the Footy Show is a retrograde step. Our Club is in crisis, he will be pummeled on there re our woes, rumours, list, more bad PR is the last thing we need now. ! He should be channeling all his efforts on getting our Club competitive again, not wasting his time trying to prop up a shitty show, well padt its use by date.

How does he get the club competitive again? The coach gets the club competitive again, not the president. The president runs the administrative side of the club and that's running really well. The coach has to take responsibility for the football side whatever the mitigating circumstances and the fact that he's failing makes the decision to replace him an easy one. |

So I guess this was the reason for the recent weight loss.
I haven't watched The Footy Show the last couple of seasons but I might give it another go with Ed back.
Still it suddenly feels like 1999 all over again.

The best footy show is Mangarook by far, Eddie is trying a back to the future quick fix for an irrelevant footy show, held together by an ageing Dinosaur named Sam Newman. Its past its use by date, he will be crucified on there by that shitty panel, re our woes, hes on a hiding to nothing.

We all know Ed has a big ego, that is mandatory for successful people. I also admire his self belief and I'm sure he thinks he can bring this lame duck back to its former glory but another hallmark of successful people is recognising how to back a winner and avoiding associating yourself with a certain loser. TFS is dead in the water, any fool can see that. This is a bad move. He is blinded by his loyalty to his baby cos he created it and his friendship with Sam who has well and truly jumped the shark.

Mangarook is a great show but I'm not sure if we should write off the footy show just yet. Eddie is a great straight man and Sam Newman needs someone to bounce off. At its best it's like Abbott and Costello. Whenever Newman wanders off into political incorrectness Eddie puts him in his place and you feel sorry for Sammy for being a dope, rather than dismissing him because he thinks he knows everything. Bit like Nicks where some contributors think they know it all and then some clever responder shuts them up with some clever response. At it's best the footy show works well. Rebecca is a great addition to the show and Dave Hughes is a brilliant comic. |

If Eddie is to make a fist of it at the Footy show, hes got to dump a lot of irrelevant crap on it, a lot of it by that dimwit Crawford, who is not funny at all, and get back to actually analysing and talking FOOTBALL. This is where Mangarook is such a good show, because they actually, believe it or not, discuss FOOTY, with out side issues and childish pranks, mysoginistic jokes, Gay jokes, and dumbarse lewd comments, most of which are very outdated and passe now. As for Eddies role as our President, on this show, under the spotlight, I really am dismayed, I don't know what to say.

Dave Hughes is an annoying Dick.
Give Crawford a 1 way ticket to Nth Korea or Syria and tell him it's a skit or a Postcards episode (send flowers to his funeral), mix a bit of seriousness with some fun, showcase the players, stay away from the extremes of juvenile boys humour and overt political correctness to get the blend right and I might actually watch it.
