A little off topic but still worth sharing.
About an hour after the game yesterday we left Metricon and caught the free public busses to Broadbeach to continue the night. These trips can be quite humorous depending on the mood of the crowd (and alcohol levels). In walks Jack Anthony, roaming down the isle telling everyone 'Jack kicks the goals' (and clearly loves a drink) but out of nowhere, Lynden Dunn (and wife/family) board the public bus! It was slightly weird that he would do so and the club didn't organise a ride/taxi but it was cool none the less.
He is a quality guy, took all the humour in good stride and also spent the majority of the bus ride talking with a wheel-chair bound Collingwood supporter and his mother.

Great story. Dunn has seemed like a top bloke from the moment he arrived at our club. It's probably a shame we didn't recruit him 5 years ago.

Even on his day off with the family, seems like he was still trying to recruit us a centre-half-forward.

Why are getting so smashed at the stoppages since the bye? Injuries?

Pendles is injured. That said, Witts gave them first use of the ball a lot, early - but Collingwood actually broke even for hitouts by the end and shaded GCS in clearances 45 to 43. We do rely on a small number of players to get their hands on the ball for the clearance - 6 players got 37 of our 45 clearances between them (Adams 9, De Goey 8, Treloar 6, Pendles 5, Sidey 5 and Grundy 4) - it's the same for most clubs. I think the problem is more that we over-use the ball when we get it - we had 23% more disposals than them (408 to 332) and smashed them in contested possession (160 to 136) - a team that used the ball well and had that much more of it might have been expected to win by 40 to 50 points.

P4S it's funny how things look different at the game than they do on TV.
I thought yesterday our clearances worked far better and cleaner when JDG was on the ball in comparison to Adams.
We really don't want Pendles Treloar Sidey in and under trying to win the ball we need them outside using it.
I would advocate Wills in & try Maynard as well on the ball at times to give us more grunt
Wills is a known tackling machine and Maynard is as hard as a cats head and I think his best football is up the ground not near our defence
Yesterday before the rain we ran Sidey and Varcoe off the HBF or back of the square and with Wells and Treloar they linked up really well (at the game you could see each of them running to be in position for a handball receive or kick) and those quick entries into our forward line made Elliott and Faz very dangerous.
When the ball got wet we didn't adjust well quickly enough for mine (same problem we've had all year). We over used the ball in the second term and again for parts of the 3rd. When we adopted the move it forward any way you can and lock it in we had complete control of the game.

One of the highlights of the game for me was the excellent performance of Scharenberg. You could see how well he reads the play and consequently positions himself.
I also thought Fas was terrific.

Interesting post of observations on Nick's VFL from yesterdays game which indicates Kirby, Daicos and Brown still need more time before stepping up to AFL level. Very good advice/observation in my opinion.

^ yes, finally Scharenberg looks to be coming on. He's not yet looking like a top ten draft pick, but with time, we may have another jimmy clement on our hands.

Scharenberg would have been helped by the rain falling. Langdon combined well with him and I liked Varcoe's pace off the half back line even though a few here didn't like his game. It's a misnomer to think that Goldsack is a KPP. He's not. He's a utility but he's playing very well at the moment. If we had May in our defence it would make our defence impregnable because Dunn has been fantastic for us this year.

The Kirbinator only kicked one so using Buck's Langdon/Ramsay logic he's a big chance this week.

Mate if we could have a Jimmy Clement II I'd be very very happy indeed.
