It's not a terrorist attack though.

It's a hate crime.

For it to be labelled a terrorist act it would need to be IMO part of a pattern of behaviour like we've witnessed with radical Islamist's around the world or the IRA.

This crime is more akin with the douche who drove down Bourke Street killing multiple people and is more an act by one crazed individual than crimes committed because of an ideology of the many.

It's useful to bear in mind that one bloke with a Commodore did more damage on Australian soil than all of the Islamic terrorists in history combined.

In Australia

20 years ago, one peanut with some guns did some major damage at port Arthur resulting in major changes to gun laws. Prior to him, there were a few others, Knight and Vidcovic come to mind.

maybe we should consider taking action when a trend presents rather than waiting for the Bryant moment?

We do need some better dangerous-driving laws.

Counter-terror forces have revealed that a terrorist attack in Australia is 'probable' but are encouraging residents to go about their business as usual.

It comes after it was reported the country is on high alert with fears Islamic State is set to launch a series of attacks around the world on Wednesday, a key date of Ramadan.

'Go about your activities as normal': Counter-terrorism cops urge for calm after ISIS warn of an attack TODAY - as police admit an attack is 'probable' during Ramadan's 'Night of Power'

What a fearmongering beat-up. The actual quote from security agencies in the article is that the risk remains unchanged and that there is no specific reason to worry about the (seemingly regular) threats issued by ISIS. The article even contradicts its own headline the source is quoted as saying "there is not [sic] state of high alert". The Daily Mail really are a repellent news organisation.

And for this we should thank ASIO, the Federal and State police and the Australian Islamic community.

It's not that the jihadis aren't trying.
One day they'll succeed and kill dozens.
But then you'll probably say:
"you know, more people die falling off ladders than from islamic terrorism".
This, of course, will be a great consolation to the grieving families.

But hey, we'll be safe in Melbourne now! Phew.

The Victorian bollards received mixed reactions from Melburnians, with some commuters telling 3AW they thought they were "unnecessary", while others believed that they were a product of "a reality we have to live".

A city worker told Fairfax that he thought the concrete blocks were "absolutely hideous".

"What next -- barbed wire? It doesn't look good at all," he said.

A reality we have to live..... really?

So, as the London Mayor casually advises - Sadiq Khan has said he believes the threat of terror attacks are part and parcel of living in a big city and encouraged Londoners to be vigilant to combat dangers.

Vigilant, so simple really Rolling Eyes

It just gets better......

Still, lets forget all of our terrorism troubles for a moment and enjoy a fun day at the football. Next years AFL multicultural round should be a particular delight. Those planning to attend, however, might consider arriving a little earlier than usual. Like, say, this week. Thats because the AFL is installing airport-style body scanners.

The walk-through weapons detectors will be introduced at the MCG, Etihad Stadium and AAMI Park to protect fans from attack, Melbournes Herald Sun reported last week.

In another new anti-terror measure, fans will be allowed to carry only clear plastic bags into the stadiums, making additional checks easier for security staff.

And yet more awkward for fans.

Just as at airports, patrons will walk through a scanning arch while their personal possessions will travel on a tray, the Herald Sun continued.

Thats not going to the footy. Thats being cleared to visit a high-security prison.

A case of just desserts

"....A quick-thinking Egyptian tank crew saved dozens of lives after crushing a vehicle packed with four suicide bombers and over 100 kilos of high explosives..."

That's harsh, Stui - these were just ordinary fundamentalists going off to their day job to do routine things. What right did the tank operator have to interfere like that?
