Post subject: Howe as back or forward | |
|
I have had strong debates about the best position for Howe, I am interested in the Nicksters views on the matter.
As a backman we have one of the best intercept marks in the game. Our defence is down on quality talls making Howe valuable there. His passing by foot isn't elite and he isn't the tightest of defenders.
As a forward he would at least bring the ball down and not get outmarked. Howe would take the best defender which also frees up Moore. Howes kicking for goal is better than his passing by foot.
Do we play him forward and play a White or okeefe back? |

He is a great intercept mark in the backline partly because he reads the play so well. Playing as a forward would be very different. He would be relying a fair bit on delivery. We're not the greatest at that just yet. Don't want him wasted there while we are kicking it elsewhere. _________________ kymbo |

On balance I'd say down back.
i don't see we have clear backline options who can do what he does, I do see that we have forward options who can offer equal output.
So, for mine, he's more valuable to the team down back than up forward. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Why not leave him there, bring in Keeffe or Dunn and move Reid up forward? The dilemma then is who does Reid push out of the forwards? Cox, with White to take the occasional ruck duties? _________________ "The night is a very dark time for me" Chaz Michael Michaels |

He gets the ball with great marking and non stop running and his ball use altho good is not exceptional
Do we bring Dunne in and slot Jeremry in an attacking role closer to goal
Sure coach staff would keep all options open--with Varcoe offered a week maybe try it _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

I've always said longer term I'd like to see him playing off a wing. Need to settle the defensive group before we can free him up for that role though. |

I think we should leave him back. He is my second pick behind Reid.
I would like to see this defensive set-up:
B: Howe Dunn Smith
HB: Goldsack Reid Moore
Depth: Maynard Schade Ramsay
Langdon Scharen Oxley _________________ Gavin Brown.. Collingwood lifting..Right on the boundary line, back to Milane likewise... DAICOS nearly runs out of room........ GOAL |

Its worth a try Moore could be a revelation in defense just like Howe was and is _________________ Gavin Brown.. Collingwood lifting..Right on the boundary line, back to Milane likewise... DAICOS nearly runs out of room........ GOAL |

I agree with this, imo, Moore really needs to be 'clearly' the 3rd tall at this point of his career and would benefit greatly by having someone like Reid along side him.
I'd like to see a forward line consisting of at least these 4 Moore, Reid, Elliot, Sidebottom, plus another tall (White suxs but there you go...), and whatever player at that point of time that balances the situation of the game. |

I can see the attraction, but I think that Reid's calf issues started (and persisted) when he was moved forward, and I have always wondered whether this related to the run-forward-and-turn nature of forward work, compared to the more straight-line work of a backman. One for the fitness staff, I guess, but I'd hate to lose him from both again..... _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

His value in the backline is proven. His value in the forward line is speculative at best and so far when we have pushed him up the ground he has failed to have impact.
