Why is a 14 year old having a big night out?

The little £$%$ers on remand for stabbing the guy at the servo, surely they should be tried as adults, and if not, try the parents too, someone is responsible for their behaviour.

I understand Jo but it is too complicated for words. The parents, making a big assumption that both are together, have probably been told they are out of line. Give the little prick a tent and a blanket and tell him to eff off. No one to pay for anything. He will freeze in Canberra or toe the line. Up to him.

Not saying the answer is indulgence! Perhaps some sort of diversion program or even institutionalisation is required. Just responding to RR's suggestion which, I feel, far too many parents actually choose in situations like this.
