Good recovery by the Vics, though - they were 6/345 (lost 3/13 this morning) before Gotch and Pattinson steadied the ship.

'Keeper Gotch and Patto gutsed it out till lunch, with 34 runs from 22 overs.

SA 1/19 at Stumps, chasing the Vics' first innings total of 487. Gotch 52 and Pattinson 80 put on 139 for the 7th wicket, then the Vics lost 4/3. Patto took the wicket (Dalton). It's taken 12 overs for SA to get to 19, so it looks like they may have to bat for the best part of 2 days (if they can) to catch the Vics.

The Croweaters will have to make 600 at least because to win they will need a lead big enough toget 10 wickets in a day. I seriosly doubt they will bat a second time. If they are say 150 behind they will call it off because the vics are not going to start throwing wickets away.

Tremendous effort from Patto (52) and Gotch. Especially Patto's 80.

Had they been rolled early, Victoria could've been in strife. Yes, the runs were important but the 395 balls they used up may prove the difference. Unless someone goes berserk, for the Redbacks, with the bat, Victoria is in a Shield winning position.

Must be noted, also. Chadd Sayers' 7fa was outstanding but not surprising if you've followed his season. 54 wickets before this match.
