I moved up to QLD in 1990 and try to get my Magpie hit via the internet, and games at the Gabba and Gold Coast.

But every time I return to Melb/Vic I am reminded how entrenched and significant footy is.

Down for a family birthday, in the Grampians, and even though cricket and tennis are very active and it is still January, the lead news and sports item was Collingwood training. Made me feel back! Go Pies.

you can buy hedgehog!

you can find, after much searching, Ferguson Plarres cake shops!

all towns look like a mini version of Melbourne!

beaches are enticing, beautiful, but freezing water.

broad straight highways with nobody on them have a speed limit of 100km per hour

seafood in Chinese restaurants includes scallops.

food tastes better.

You had me at Flake RITF, (he say's as his mouth waters), and Ferguson Plarres French vanilla slice and pastie slice.

Also Melbourne pizza, you can't beat it. Yes and the footy news!

Can't get flake or decent pizza in Cairns, but I'm still staying in North Queensland even though the beers crap!

I forgot souvlaki and Coco Black (how do you forget souvlaki)

What are these vacant highways of which you speak? Shocked

Ain't none of them round Melbourne.

Sad news today in the age that the Olympic Dougnuts shop at Footscray station is to close, due to the ill health of it's owner

A sad day for another Melbourne icon. Oh well Footscray, you win some you lose some.

You don't have to ask the bartender to change the channel of the smallest of all the TVs to the footy - not the big one, that's reserved for rugby league, soccer, golf, whatever...

Also you don't have to trawl through the internet to find out if your nearest licenced club actually has the footy channel on at all!

Works both ways, my brother, a rugby union fan, was irked to discover that the broadcast of the test match was guzumped by the footy on TV - in southern NSW!

Yeah, weird that. Places like Wagga(2) are AFL havens, rather than rugger.

A scallop is an actual scallop, not a potato cake.

Scallops nom nom nom
