So, the AFC Championship game will be Steelers at New England and in the NFC, it will be Packers at Atlanta.
You'd have to back the two home teams but Steelers v Packers would be a tremendous Super Bowl. |

Atlanta lead 24:0 at the half. It's nothing - 4 Hail Marys and we win this.... |

The Pats are thumping the Steelers 33:9. Brady has just scored 3 TDs in a playoff game for the 9th time - that ties Joe Cool's fabulous record for the 49ers.
So, it's going to be Atlanta v Pats in Houston in 2 weeks' time. |

Welcome back OEP.
I think the Falcons look good and, like you, think they are the likely winner but the Packers' secondary was very poor. I don't expect that the New England defence will let them move it at will on almost every play. |

Very true. The Falcons defense has played the better passing teams than the Patriots. From memory the Patriots haven't played a top 5 passing team this year, I could be wrong though, while the Falcons have (Saints, Green Bay) and both offenses have only played against one top 5 passing defence.
I guess my point is I think Atlanta have had the tougher schedule and are better prepared to face a high output / scoring offense.
My hope is that Atlanta only play a 3 man defensive line intent on controlling rather than rushing the passer and then stack the middleof the field to take away Brady's easy / quick passes forcing him into the riskier medium-long to long passes, play man-to-man pass protection with the safeties zoning. Easier said than done against possible one of the greatest QB's the NFL has seen (that hurt to type). Hell Atlanta could very well just go @#$& it stack the line, rush the passer all day and play the middle field with the safeties trusting their CB's to get the job done.
Personally I just don't think any defence can curtail Matt Ryan. At the moment he's in the zone and passing the ball better than even, yeah I'm going to type it, Aaron Rodgers.
Should be a hell of a game though. _________________ A Collingwood supporter since the egg was inseminated.

^^^ I hope you're right, OEP - it would be nice to see the Falcons get up.
As for that stuff you're saying about Ryan passing the ball better than certain other people, I have my fingers in my ears. Say it again and I'll have to hold my breath until I turn blue. |

Well, after each team has had one offensive series in SB 51, it's nil-all. Brady started with a three and out. Then, just when Ryan looked like he might take it into New England territory, he was sacked by Flowers and dumped at his own 40.
New England have the ball at their own 10. |

Wow! Big moment!
New England powered to the Atlanta 33 and looked set to put up the first points in this game - then LeGarrett Blount fumbled his carry at the Atlanta 29. Turnover. Atlanta back on the ball. |

And just like that, in less than 2 minutes, the Falcons go 71 yards in five plays for the TD. They lead 7:0, just under three minutes into the second quarter. |

Another Brady 3 and out and Atlanta have the ball back with Ryan.
According to the ESPN probability calculator, Atlanta has a 75.1% chance of winning from here. Since, to my observation, only Green Bay has contrived to lose - or nearly lose - from that position this season (thanks to a hopeless secondary), New England had best do something about this quickly. |

And now Atlanta leads 14:0 and its probability of winning is up over 86%.
Looks like the great Bart Starr's record as the only quarterback in history to win 5 championships is likely to survive.
Also, just quietly - and with due deference to the actual greatest quarterback of all time, it would be a great shame if Brady got ahead of Joe Montana on the all-time SB-winning table. I expect OEP might agree. |
