He struggled under the pressure of being selected at #1 pick up by GC. Has the ability and worth a show. Another tall hits our VFL list.

Happy to give him another chance, did go in the 20's in 2011 draft so obviously has talent.

The kids no hack I just think he struggled in a poor system and like many talls didn't find his feet quickly and was passed in the pecking order
Kid looks likely type and he has expernce playing against men so he wouldn't take loads of extra work to get used to the physical demands

Ha ha ha! Ya got me there WPT. Got her album, Promise....on vinyl. If he's half as good as that album, he'll be a top addition to our 'playlist'

Look, i'd rather get Steve May, but he might be the next best thing for free.

Played 5 games this year and 15 last year.

AFL site says his contract was extended until end of 2017, so must have been cut.

Anyone know why they cut him?

Welcome to the club, Henry. Make the most of your second chance.

It was stated in the article below that the Gold Coast delisted him "because they needed a list spot to use their plethora of early draft picks this year" .

Gold Coast stated earlier in the month, that they would re-draft him as a rookie, but it looks like we beat them to it, unless they cooled on their interest on him as they had two opportunities to rookie list him before we pounced.

Rookie Draft: Selection No. 24 Henry Schade

Position: Key defender
Height: 197cm
Weight: 89kg
Born: 8/10/1993
Recruited from: Gold Coast/ North Hobart

Profile

A key defender who played 20 games in five years on Gold Coast's list. Schade was originally added to the Suns' list with the 24th selection in the 2011 National Draft. It took him longer than any other Gold Coast player to earn a debut, but he didn't miss a beat upon his selection early in 2015 and played 15 of the final 18 games.

Schade was given key roles on the opposition's best forwards, combining with the likes of Steven May and Rory Thompson.

He managed five senior games early in 2016 but none after round 10, and found himself off the list at season's end. Originally from North Hobart, Schade joins fellow Tasmanian Jeremy Howe on Collingwood's 2017 list.

A real surprise pick. But I think a warranted one. Has 20 games under his belt and fills a need on our list.

Interesting that Alex Silvagni was taken the pick before hand. Wonder how serious we were at taking him? I think Schade offers a lot more due to the age difference.

I think this is a great selection. He doesn't appear to have much physical presence despite his size. This is the only reason I can think for GCS delisting him (and the need to open up another spot on their main list). But we badly lack height and rebound (reason for clearing Frost and Brown) in our back half, so his selection makes plenty of sense. Plus he has age on his side which we wouldn't have got had we recruited Silvagni and offers more in the way of rebound than Richards. Very pleasantly surprised by all our rookie selections and eases my reservations about our pickup of Kirby in the national draft.
