I cant work out all this silly fuss.

We need Mythbusters type of experiments to know whether it is a fact that some sweet saliva on a ball improves swing, shine or whatever MORE than plain saliva which is legal. Shocked

This is such a stupid overreaction by the media and now the ICC. Rolling Eyes

The Aussies should use all their saliva from sour grapes on the ball in the next test.... Idea

Whether it works, as a ball shining agent, better than just saliva, isn't the issue.

It's simply illegal.

Law 42.3 of the MCC's Laws of Cricket states that a fielder may polish a ball, "provided that no artificial substance is used".

du Plessis has 'form', in this regard.

"Du Plessis, who has long been South Africa's player in charge of shining the ball, was fined by the ICC for rubbing the ball on a trouser zipper during a 2013 Test against Pakistan. "

Agree that it is a law but agree to disagree that it is NOT a really stupid bloody law. Rolling Eyes

As yet not one player found guilty of this "law" has been suspended. However with the hysterical Aussie media hacking away and the fact that he is a repeat offender, this time the outcome might be different. Exclamation

Fined 100% of his Hobart match fee.

Looks like the ICC agreed that it wasn't worth a suspension unlike 99% of the feral hack media wanted. Rolling Eyes Storm in a tea cup and a mintie.
