LeBron James and Co. are now the defending champs, and no one seems poised to knock The King off of his throne in the East.

Lets look at the rest of the eastern playoff teams from this season?

1. Toronto – Kept DeMar DeRozan in place, and even the loss of Bismack Biyombo doesn’t weaken them very much. But have they added enough to get past the Cavs?

2. Miami – Dont know if its wise to count Pat Riley out of anything. Chicago could learn a few lessons from Riley when it comes to the art of the “retool.’’ Managed to keep Whiteside, but they have let veterans like Deng and Johnson go. Wade might be on the move too. But im still expecting something, but they need to at fast.

3. Atlanta – Kept Kent Bazemore and then went out and nabbed Dwight Howard. An interesting roster, as Dennis Schroder is now the main point guard. Lost Horford, which hurts them. All eyes will be on Dwight and the report he builds with his teammates. Wouldnt be surprised if they fall in the standings.

4. Boston – A playoff team with a lot of talent, especially in the backcourt. Have added Horford and have the cash to land another superstar. If they land KD, they'll be the team that could knock off the Cavs. Danny Ainge seems like a mastermind right now.

5. Charlotte – Spending money and draft picks to keep Nicolas Batum on the roster and add a shooter like Marco Belinelli. Lost Linsainity. And not deep enough to challenge for me.

6. Indiana – Maybe the biggest facelift in the East right now, and a team that is definitely pushing forward with the addition of both Jeff Teague and Thaddeus Young. A healthy Pacers team could make the ECF, but are they good enough to keep LeBron down?

7. Detroit – Kept their big-ticket item in Andre Drummond, and again seem prepared to be a playoff team again. They are a young up and coming side, so Im not expecting a deep playoff push. Not yet anyway.

From the teams who missed out on playoff action:

Chicago - No chance. That team is in limbo. Possibly could add Rondo and Wade, but I cant see them challenging the Cavs. They look a mess to me. Their front office will be heavily under pressure and changes will be called for if things dont turn around quickly. What a fall from grace.

Washington - Wall and Beal looked like becoming a lethal backcourt. But they lack the depth and the power forward players to push. Could sneak into the top 8. But they really needed to find help around the boards.

Orlando - Have made some big moves, mainly defensively. To me they lack the scoring power to become a threat. Could climb the ladder, but not into the contending level.

Milwaukee - I like this team, but they lack composure. Havnt added enough to suggest they'll improve.

New York - Wow. Theyve added Rose, Noah and Lee. If they all stay healthy, they should finish in the better half of the playoff teams. The city has been thirsty for playoff success for some time and if they fail again, there will be some fallout. Im not confident that they can beat Cleveland. But we'll see.

Brooklyn - Dont know what they are doing. They have really cost themselves with that trade involving Boston some years back. Theyve added Linsainity, but he wont turn them into a playoff contender.

Philadelphia - Have done what you could expect from the worst team going round. Have drafted well. But didnt get involved enough in trades or free agency. I think we'll see some improvement, but playoffs are still some way off.

good post Presti, East still very weak. I like Boston and Indiana for the reasons you mentioned. Milwaukee has a lot of talent but where underwhelming last season.

Cheers WOY.

Some interesting moves overnight with Wade going to Chicago.

All of a sudden their backcourt is Rondo-Wade. That is just so weird.

Dunleavy going to the Cavs to clear up cap space. I think he'll be a good fit for the Cavs if he stays fit.

So the Bulls line up atm looks like:

Lopez (Felicio)
Gibson (Mirotic) (Portis)
Butler (McDermott) (Zipser)
Rondo (Valentine) (Grant)
Wade (Snell) (Brooks) (Dinwiddie)

Players gone: Rose, Noah, Gasol, Moore.

I'd expect Brooks to sign elsewhere. I think Portis is too good to be a third string forward too. So it's possible the Bulls will trade Gibson and bring Mirotic into the starting 5.

It would have been interesting if Gasol had of stayed. But I guess the money for Wade wouldnt have been there. I just wonder if he would have reconsidered if he knew Rondo & Wade were coming in?

You just think of all the talls they had and the lack of depth they had at guard and now its the other way around. Strange times.

Getting back to other teams....

Washington lost Nene. And have not added anything. Theyve missed out on free agency. (Apart from hanging onto Beal that is).

Miami all of a sudden look completely different. I doubt they'll finish as high next season. (Pat Riley might have something up his sleeve.... Is he thinking Westbrook??).

Im still waiting to see what Boston does. They have so much cap space and plenty of future picks to play with. Since missing out on Durant, will they try for a trade now?? (Theyve been eyeing off Butler and Westbrook).

Still a long way to go. But I still cant see anyone in the East pushing the Cavs.

Best chance would be the Raptors. With Boston and Chicago the slightest of chances to win a couple games in a 7 game series.

Changed my mind about Chicago. They would be lucky to win 1 game in a 7 game series. Disappointing. Wade-Rondo-Butler-Gibson-Lopez should be good enough to at least challenge a few games, but they'll be lucky to make the playoffs at this rate. (They do not have the best bench in the league as some have reported. MCW the only "star" on the bench if you ask me).

Raptors the only real chance to knock off the Cavs. Still think the Celtics could make a good series, but dont think they'd be able to win 4 games.

Still a long way to go. But something drastic would have to happen for the Cavs not to make the Finals.

Le Bron was at the Cleveland Browns' first win of the NFL season today. It looked from the extent of the carryon like he was much more impressed by the Browns than he's ever been by a game of basketball.

They've just added Kyle Korver for an absolute steal of a trade.

KK is a 3 point specialist and a former all-star.

He is a fantastic addition to their team.

Rumor has it that they're also looking to add Rondo to their bench. I dont know how RR feels about that, but there's no way in hell anyone is going to beat them in the east.

It's going to be an absolute cakewalk for them to get into the finals. No one can challenge.

Cavs had their arses handed to them overnight by GSW.

But if they fill a spot or 2 on their bench, it might be a different story if they meet in the finals. Especially if monster James shows up.

Cavs on a bit of a slope at the moment.

But still in the #1 position in the East.

Celtics looking to bring in Carmelo or Butler. Could they be the team to dethrone the king?

Chicago Bulls in an absolute shambles, so they'll probably trade away good players for nix.

C's playing really well. Will be very interested to see if they make a move before the trade deadline.

Raps dropped off. Don't know what's going on there, but they wont be able to beat anyone in the playoffs if they don't get their act back together.

Over in the West, it feels like the Warriors cant hack a loss.

Cant believe the Wiz are third and the Bulls 7th. Shows how bad the East is right now.

Watch the Rondo situation carefully. If he is brought out (A DUMB move by Chicago), a contender could snap him up as a HUGE bench piece. He should be starting for the Bulls, but they've lost the plot even tho they are somehow in a playoff spot.

Still disappointed with the Knicks, well sort of as I don't like them. Watch the Carmelo situation, as he might be looking to join a better squad. I wonder if Rose will still be a Knick when the deadline hits?

And just a side note, its nice to see Utah doing well in a strong West conference.

Trade deadline is extremely close now.

Celtics the only team that at this stage could upset the Cavs in the East.

We've seen DeMarcus Cousins traded to New Orleans, will we see Boston go for Anthony or Butler?

And will Cleveland make some kind of move?

Lots could change between now and this time tomorrow.

Annnnnd.... nothing.

Never seen so many roumers and mysterious tweets from players for absolutely nothing.

Boston - Nothing. With the picks they have, they couldnt get someone to seriously contend with Cleveland. Linked to just about everyone, Butler, Griffin, Anthony, George and nothing. Cavs would be somewhat relieved.

New York - Nothing. Passed up on Rubio for his history of injuries. However they were happy to take Rose 6 months ago. Kept Melo. Backwards organisation.

Chicago - Traded 2 rotation players (just about starters) to OKC for three average players. Kept Mirotic which I'm shattered about, I cant stand him. Will tumble out of the playoffs. Wade/Rondo the so called saviors have done SFA. Didnt get Okafor and have gotten significantly weaker.

Sacramento - The biggest losers after handing away Cousins for nothing. Bloody hell they'd be lots of teams thinking they could have offered more. Keep in mind the Kings are 9th and the Pelicans are 11th.

Winners in all this is Cleveland, because the Celtics didn’t get better.

Dallas got Nerlens Noel for Bogut which is a good deal.

Cavs expected to sign Andrew Bogart and Deron Williams after buyouts from their current teams (76ers and Mavericks). This does nothing but make the Cavs even stronger.

Knicks expected to buyout Brandon Jennings. He offers great backup support, so we'll see if one of the contenders bites here. A small rumor that Derrek Rose will also be bought out by the Knicks.

Perhaps the Celtics could use Rose or Jennings off the bench? But is Rose still worthy of a starting position? Then again, with Thomas starting at PG, they have Smart backing him up. So they'll probably be looking to find a shooting guard if anything.

Don't know wtf is going on.

* Celtics are the only team that can challenge Cleveland in the East. But they go from beating teams like the Cavs and Warriors to losing to teams like Suns.

* Cavs looking a little shaky lately, but they've been resting players, namely Le Bron and Kyrie. Love still out injured and the Bogut signing has fallen on its arse after he played a whole 58 seconds before a season ending injury.

* Bulls take two steps forward and then 4 back. Frustrating. Gone from a 4th or 5th placed chance to barely holding onto 8th. Still a Bulls/Cavs first round could be fun if it happens.

* Are the Raptors cooked? After such a good start, its all fallen in. Same as last year. Still a chance to finish 2nd, but they need to turn things back around quickly.

* Spurs flying under the radar. Which is nuts considering they are 50-13. Could go all the way.

* Wizards have come out of no where. Good to see, but still not good enough to win the East.

* Rockets and Jazz going along nicely.

* Warriors not the sure thing they were a month ago. When will KD be back?

Celtics taken over the #1 seed in the east.

Bulls knocked off Cavs overnight. Sweep the season series. Unreal.
