Was chuffed to see Fab Phil on Marngrook tonight; didn't say too much to be frank, but still nice to see a former pies great.

Wasn't privileged enough to see him playing in the flesh, but he always looks a treat on the old videos.

100 games over 4 clubs, and a stint coaching Sturt. Still a pies fan by the looks of it.

What was most interesting was him discussing the clearance battles he had with the pies as a 17 year looking to play in the SANFL; talk about starting off on the wrong foot!

For what its worth, no one had the balls to ask him about snotting Tucky in the 1977 2nd semi

He still looks pretty good for his age. He must look after himself. He was the only one on the panel to tip the Pies.

He shared a house in East Melbourne with Len Thomson a few doors up from ours in 1976 and they were both top blokes, who used to often talk to the kids in the neighborhood.

a Gippsland boy if my memory serves me. he turned up to pre season training for Norwood and ran rings around all in his first year. a bit of a wild one.

According to a former Board member at the time he blamed a lot of the problems between Collingwood and Phil on his Missus.
Mainly money issues.
