Exactly. From a logistical sense it's a good solution if you can do it. What we're doing doesn't seem to be working well so lets stop it until we figure out how to do it properly. Logical, not always doable and totally misquoted by those with agendas.

On Obamacare and following the argument of being logical, I read somewhere that Obama was well aware that his health solution was far from perfect, but the logic was to put it in place with flaws as it would still be better than what was before it, and then tweak it on the run, adapting and modifying as required and as issues and opportunities present.

Again, I tend to like that logic, I often use exactly the same approach to change. You can't always anticipate the unintended consequences and no matter how much prep work you do, no solution can be perfect first time up. So better to put a flawed improvement in place (as long as it doesn't have an actual adverse impact overall), admit it's flawed and be prepared to work on it, than spend forever working through bureaucracy trying to get the perfect solution that will never eventuate.

An indefinite ban is still a ban. There's no sugarcoating it. Like most 'short-term' national security policies, it's unlikely it would be overturned any time soon (at least, not until the next Democratic presidency). If he'd called for, say, a 12-month hiatus with a review afterwards, it'd still be outrageous xenophobic dog-whistling, but at least he'd be setting up precise terms and conditions. As it is, "until we figure out what's going on" is about as vague as you could get.
