I'm thoroughly sick & tired of hearing comms say (after Warner smashes another 6, "Ah, yes. But he DOES use a big bat" or "But you have to take into account the bat he uses" - as if other batsmen aren't allowed to use similar.

He may be shortish, in stature, but he has muscles on his muscles and is incredibly talented.

Incidentally (but on topic), he just creamed the fastest ball of the day (60 odd overs) into the second tier of one of the stands. Smile

I read up on bat weights etc and his bat is not really much heavier than bats from the 80s. Its dimensions are bigger, particularly thickness, but weight not much difference. Bat is much less dense as a result which must distribute the sweet spot. The bats nowadays don't last anywhere the number of balls as they used to. I'd still love to see him and some of the other players head out with a Gray Nichols single of twin scoop!

On a related note, but different sport, I read tweet from Greg Norman saying he recently hit some of his old persimmon woods and he only lost about 10 yards.

Donny, it's the bat. Like the R&A and USPGA did with golf, cricket bats need to be regulated as it's getting stupid. When you can top edge a 6, the bat has too big of a sweet spot.

That isn't the point.

Anyone can buy a bat like Warner uses.

Comparing bats of today and 20 years ago is like comparing a pop gun to heavy artillery... they are amazing these days.
