Well that was a satisfying win. It was courageous and speaks to the determination and belief in the group. In the end, it turned into what NFL watchers call smash mouth football, with the conditions dragging skills down across the park.
Our structures were cactus in the last quarter as Grundy was off, Bull Abbot & Coxie were impaired and clearly T.A. and Youngy were carrying injuries. At least I hope Youngy is carrying something because if not his performance was very ordinary. I know he was good in patches in the last but he had no appetite for a contest for the rest of the day.
I agree with a lot of what has been said so far in the post game wrap ups.
Reg Grundy & BenKen are senior footballers and looked like it today. It was BenKen's clearance from half back that actually resulted int he goal that killed the game. He is dead stiff not to be playing senior football at the moment. I suspect that he will get a chance soon as Broomie probably does not have the strength in his body yet for a long string of senior games.
Sam Dwyer was also terrific. he is such a class above the VFL.
Cox is simply astounding for someone who has played less than 10 games of football. He is clearly an elite athlete, with a tremendous desire for the contest.
It would not surprise me to see him get a game this year.
PK was PK. He finished well a couple of times but a player of his skill and class really ought impact the game more regularly.
Seeds played a good ordinary game with an occasional flash of brilliance. His Blighty like goal from inside the square showed us a glimpse of his potential.
Captain Jack, Moloney and Pendles were just consistent contributors all day. Moloney took a splendid contested mark in the 3rd but could not finish. He had kicked a terrific goal from the same spot in the 1st quarter. We we very lucky to have these boys in our team.
Wallin and Gray contributed well but Gray had a Barry Crocker in front of goal.
Shaz, as everyone has pointed out, is coming along nicely. You can see his confidence growing week to week. One bit of play in particular, where he smothered a kick whilst on the mark, collected the ball, did a a shimmy shimmy and hit Captain Jack on the chest was a delight.
Bull Abbot, if he stays fit, will be a beauty. He has the same body shape as Luke Hodge so he is immensely strong and he has elite finishing skills. I think that he would be a very good addition to our half forward line.
That is three close, hard fought wins in a row so I hope that we can sustain the effort. It feels a bit like we will run out of bodies soon, but lets hope not.
It is such a pity that Dead Eye Still is gone for the year. He is a bit like Dwyer in that he is clearly a bit too good for the VFL competition.
Lastly, I should mention Ben Sinclair. He did his bit yesterday and showed us how important he could be, but I don't quite think that he is fit enough yet.
Well we have the Scrays next week at the Whitten oval. Hopefully we will have Reid and Greenwood back.

I forgot to comment about Marsh. He is clearly something special and by all accounts is not short on confidence. As soon as his disposal improves I think that he will be terrific. Some of his run downs and one on one play is a joy to watch.
I don't think that making him play a few more seconds games is going to hurt his development one little bit. |

Harden up.
Some of us are relying on your and Bats comments from the comfort of our heated lounge rooms. |
Yeah, not easy sitting here in our cozy lounge rooms either you know |
The Bat is the real Hard Man. He shows up week in, week out. He even goes to Casey Fields, which is as miserable joint as any of the nine circles of hell. |
Yep, finally got to meet the fabled bat (and his father) at that game. |
Yep, and you got that close, that I could smell that herbal tea sh-t on your breath. Just because you enjoy feeling trippy, doesn't mean the rest of us do as well... |
I leave that herbal tea shoit to Lazza and JW, not fit for anything but polishing your silverware, certainly not HC. |

I also left at 3qtr time because of the cold - it was brutal.
Agree with what has been written so far but will add Scharenberg is moving better than ever and he can come into the ones whenever Bucks wants him (hopefully thursday!). Marsh, BK and Grundy also ready.
Thought Seedy was disappointing again. Really expected him to blitz but he didn't. Wasn't terrible, just didn't do enough, IMO. _________________ kill for collingwood! |

It is interesting, I watched the Berg closely at one stage when I was standing next to the fence and he had the ball.
He had the same time, space and awareness that Pendlebury has.
It was strange watching a Pendle clone.
It was just the one instance but it was exciting to see. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I've seen him do it a few times. Similar to Pendles in the way he is always looking for the best option. No doubt he will caught occasionally but most of the time it will be the right option and well executed (one error yesterday and last week).
Hope he gets a gig against Port. _________________ kill for collingwood! |

Stats are out, this time courtesy of BigFooty poster grimlock:
Ben Kennedy 29 disposals and 6 tackles.
Matthew Scharenberg with what I think is a 2015 PB with 22 disposals.
Patty Karnezis with 19 disposals and 7 tackles.
And of course, Jack Hellier and Ben Moloney setting the standard again in the tackling department with 11 and 10 of their own, respectively... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Is Cox good enough to let us trade Witts? (Not that I want to trade witts, just curious as he's always the first mentioned when Treloar comes up). |

Yes, I am positive Cox is good enough to make it.
He needs more upper body strength.
He needs to be more positive and kick the ball long and not try and give it off
to a midget 10 m away.
He needs to keep injury free.
So the answer is we can trade Witts and still have 2 young rucks.
If we keep Keefy then that will make it 3 in 2017.
Up to the Club if they want to trade. But a Treloar would be a fine asset. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |
