You know the various answers to that, JW:

Overheard at one club: "Our guys can't kick straight. It's a pity they can't kick 60 metre low, raking passes onto the chest of a small-forward in the goal-square like Cloke does. Then it just wouldn't matter so much."

Overheard at another club: "Our guys can't kick straight. It's a pity they can't occupy three defenders and take the heat off the secondary forwards, so they can kick 9 goals between them like Cloke does. Then it just wouldn't matter so much."

Overheard at a third club: "Our guys can't kick straight. It's a pity they can't get up the ground and take contested marks between the wing and CHF and drive it deep inside 50 like Cloke does. Then it just wouldn't matter so much."

Etc etc.

With Melbourne next week, this is an interesting article,

In the second part, what would I give to see T Cloke mentioned?

In terms of goal output, Travis' is travelling much better than he was at the same time last year. He has 17 goals after 7 rounds. At the same stage last season, he had only 8. Even if you adjust it for the opposition and take his first 2014 game against each of his 2015 opponents, he only kicked 9 goals in the 7 corresponding 2014 games.

He's on track to top 50 goals in 2015. To put it in historical perspective, this is his equal-best goal-kicking start to any season except 2013 (when he had 22, including a 7-goal haul against Ninthmond and ultimately kicked 68 for the season) - in the seasons from 2006 to 2014, he'd managed the following goals by the end of round 7:

2006 - 3
2007 - 7
2008 - 11
2009 - 7
2010 - 11
2011 - 16 (from 6 games)
2012 - 17
2013 - 22
2014 - 8

Also, his 2015 kicking, handballing and marking averages are as good as his 2014 averages, his contested marking and contested possession averages are better this year than last and his inside 50 count is on track to be 50% higher than it was last year - (indicating that he is covering more ground, much more effectively, than he did in 2014).

I think it is fair to say that he's doing exactly what the Club expected when they re-signed him to his present contract.

Just an update.

Travis now has 26.15 after 10 rounds.

In the seasons from 2005 to 2014, he'd managed the following goals by the end of round 10:

2005: 6.9
2006: 3.2
2007: 12.18
2008: 18.6
2009: 7.4
2010: 16.11
2011: 20.13
2012: 22.14
2013: 26.26
2014: 10.16

Thus, his goal-kicking return this year so far is the same as he'd achieved to the same round in his best season ever. Also, he's kicking more accurately this year, it seems. Wink

Apart from goal-kicking, he does all the other things like: chasing, tackling, blocking...

It may also be of interest to note that no other forward has kicked more than 4 goals against Melbourne this season. Cloke kicked 4 in the first quarter. Some effort.

^^All against the touted All Australian full back, Tom McDonald. Had to play two on him after that which released Oxley as a loose man at the other end. Cloke's first quarter was clearly the match winner.

Why am I not surprised you advocate $800,000.00 per annum for some hack who can't even manifest one scoring shot on goal, or barely get to a contest?

Well said Dyso. Cloke's been shit all year. If he wasn't paid so much he'd be in the VFL. It just looks embarrassing dropping someone on $800,000 pa
