Like the experts quoted in that article, I'd be treating those findings pretty sceptically. What could possibly be a link?

Unless you're into psychoanalytic woo-woo, this idea of subconscious trauma is hard to take seriously. I suppose it's more credible that the beginnings of autism could be immediately triggered by the pain and only manifest years down the road. But this is all highly speculative stuff, particularly given that theories regarding autism causes stretch from autoimmune disease to lead poisoning.

This is just jaw-dropping:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3099736/Holidaymakers-misery-boat-people-Syria-Afghanistan-seeking-asylum-set-migrant-camp-turn-popular-Greek-island-Kos-disgusting-hellhole.html

Quote:
How many more can Kos take? Holidaymaker misery as thousands of boat people from Syria and Afghanistan set up migrant camp to turn popular Greek island into 'disgusting' hellhole
Hannah Roberts

Boat people from Syria and Afghanistan and British holidaymakers have clashed on Kos – as migrants have turned the Greek island, popular with cheap package deals, into a 'disgusting' hellhole.

As families – enjoying some summer sun with their kids during the half term break – relax on sun loungers on the beach, just a yards away scores of migrants have set up camp, sleeping on cardboard boxes with rubbish strewn everywhere.

Anne Servante, a nurse from Manchester, had come to Kos expecting a relaxing break with her husband Tony, a retired plumber.

Instead her summer break has turned into a nightmare as penniless migrants who are in Greece to claim asylum sit outside their restaurant and watch them eat.

Calling it 'disgusting', Anne fumed: ‘We have been coming here for almost ten years. We like to eat, drink and relax. But this time the atmosphere has changed.

'It’s really dirty and messy here now. And it’s awkward. I’m not going to sit in a restaurant with people watching you.’

Another British couple on holiday with their grandchildren from Birmingham said: ‘We have never been before but we don’t like it.

‘We won’t be coming back if it’s like a refugee camp again next year.’

Migrants from war-torn Afghanistan and Syria have taken shelter under arcades on the seafront in Kos town as they wait to receive security clearance for onward travel to mainland Greece.

The wealthiest groups have smart phones and credit cards and are staying in local hotels for 10-15 euros a night - while the rest are camped out on the harbour side and at a derelict hotel on the edge of Kos town.

Straggly migrants straight from the boats march straight through the town with backpacks on to join friends and register for their travel permits at the police station.

Barefoot toddlers in filthy clothes play among debris while moustached men sit staring out to sea as they plan the next stage of their journey to Athens and the rest of Europe – including some heading for Britain.

Send word to the people at base camp: peak Daily Mail has been reached.

I never call it 'disgusting' Anne fumed ‘We was coming here for ten years, that would be impolite.

Hehehehehe that's classic. That's what we need more off, humour!

Although I'm having trouble looking my Fitbit in the eye right now.

Drivers in Ballarat driving at night with no lights on. I've seen it more in a week here than in all my time driving previously. Mind boggling, an nearly got taken out by one.

Went for a swim today, knee to sore to hit the gym. They moved lanes over cos a school group was coming in, so I switch over, and there was a guy about 35-40 in the lane. He was in the fast lane, but just kinda floating along. He was at the end before me, and as I swam up to the wall, he did a wierd jelly fish on its back drop to the bottom of the pool, so I almost swam over him. WTF?? Realised he was checking me out under the water! Wierd £$%$er, I resisted the urge to kick him in the nuts. He couldn't catch me anyway, I lapped him every second lap!

Swam a Kim plus a couple of extra laps in case I counted wrong, in 30 min. Not bad, first time in the pool since last winter! Go me!
