Post subject: Dane Swan - a little respectReply with quote

I have just watched the game again. From the time the Bears got within 10 points (about 6 and a half minutes to go), Swan and Langdon played them almost on their own for the next 5 minutes or so. Swanny's relentless efforts stopped the Bears breaking clear again until it no longer mattered. 10 disposals, 9 contested, in the last quarter, when almost every other Collingwood player was going up and down in the one spot.

Assuming he remains fit this season, he will pass the total of Collingwood games played by Phonse Kyne, Gavin Crosisca, Peter Daicos, Lou Richards, Harry Collier and Gavin Brown - and he will be hot on the heels of Nathan Buckley, Jock McHale, Scott Burns and Len Thompson. Some achievement!

Looking at his game last night statistically, his disposal average over his career is a whisker under 27 per game, yet - before last night - his average from his 14 matches against the Bears was his "worst" of his averages against specific opposition (at about 24 per game). Thus, Dane Swan, playing his 237th career game, reached a new personal statistical high and, in doing so, just about carried the 'Pies to safety when they looked to be on the ropes.

Enjoy it while it lasts, folks. His continued enormous contribution should not be overlooked.

Top post. Swanny probably needs a few more weeks to get really fit, given his preseason was interrupted by hip surgery.

His disposal was off but the effort was well and truly there and he covered the ground well for someone still underdone.

Despite his larrikin nature I suspect Swan takes a lot of pride in the performances he gives and what he has achieved in his career to date.

By his own admission his season last year was putrid.

Swan is an all time Collingwood great, a legend and one can only hope he can keep father time at bay for a season or two more.

Swan back to his best instantly makes us a much better side than what we saw last year.

Everyone is focussing on Swan's disposal efficiency, and I just don't get it.

He was back to his old self last night, if he plays like that every week we are a better side, simple.

He held us together in that last quarter, repelling attack after attack.

Great post. I was a bit critical of him kicking without looking in the first half but i think he was just getting used to the tempo after being on a modified pre season program.
I think the biggest positive is, barring injury, i cant see him performing at any less of a standard for the rest of the season.

It,s time for the young guns (Adams gettin close) to work with this great man
Watch him ,learn from him and above all give him a chop out to extend his time
he has left
I thought him a bit slow till a mate said "If he,s slow then put Beams out to pasture
as Swanny ran past Beams to the contest in dying stages"

Seriously, I just don't see what you want from the club and the team. An against the odds win at the Gabba in tough conditions with so much to like and be positive about and you have a go at Swan who is a Collingwood legend, premiership player, Brownlow medalist!

I just don't get it. Stay negative if you like but supporting the team and club through the hard times only makes the good times sweeter.

Great post Pies4shaw. Swanny was good. A real thorn in Brisbane's side.

I love Swanny, saying that I would like to see him be more creative by hand instead of mongrel punting the ball.

Spot on! Enjoy one of the greatest players that has ever laced up for us while he is still playing. He may spray some but some of the numbers he does out on the field like his sense of humour are just original and the rest are necessary and can go unnoticed.
Can't wait until he takes on the Bombers at Anzac day! That palm off and goal last year will live in my memory just like a Daicos goal or a Greening specky. Very Happy

Thanks, Pies4. Smile

Was tempted to post something similar but, as he's been my favourite players for years, I resisted. At times, he looks slow but to see him burn off Beamsy, at the death was stirring stuff.

Yep, Swanny is a gun and is looking like he's going to have a good year,

Can we get a bit of love for Langdon as well?
