The only reason Essendon were allowed top up players is because they pretty much couldn't field a full squad without them.

We will have two spots available for rookie upgrades. I would say one would be Gault, and the other will be used later on if one of Mantiet, Abbott or Cox is required.

Not sure I'd play Abbott - has not kept up to promise shown before the draft. Likely to be delisted in 2016 if not before. Perhaps put him in charge of the cheer squad.

WTF? We aren't even at round 1 of his first year at the club.
I guess I can't complain. You've given him every chance to prove himself. :O

Perhaps he's talking about a different Abbott? Razz

(If so, giving him until 2016 seems generous...)

Geez David, who'd want to be named Abbott anyways?
If you're not dodging daggers in the back from your own party, and you're not exactly flavour of the month for bowling bouncers at a certain valed batsman, the they'll get up you on Nicks before you've even pulled on a black and white jumper?!

Dyso

I reckon. The bloke was recruited as a rookie with full knowledge of the injury he was carrying and where his fitness was.
By all reports he has rehabbed extremely well and completed all fitness work expected.
He is building every game.

Everyone is aware that the follow up test will be taking place on Tuesday April 14 but that's a formality more than anything else so the club will be well-aware that it needs to brace itself for the worse and prepare for the future post-Keefe and Thomas if they're no longer on the club list.

At the present time, it doesn't look good for either player sadly.

To me if we end up being without Thomas and Keeffe then it's no different to losing them to LTI.

They are hardly the calibre of Sidebottom and Cloke and while it means two less players to draw on losing them is no excuse for a terrible season if it was to occur.

This should unite the playing group if anything.

In normal circumstances I would certainly agree swoop.

However . . . .

With our last three seasons having been all but destroyed by extreme list shortages this will just be another knife in the guts for the coaching group.

Yep, spot on mate. How many more bloody setbacks can they take FFS? Given a clear run, we would have been very happy with this team over the past 2 years. Rolling Eyes

I think Keefe is a shame because he is tall, and we seem to eternally light on for decent tall players with experience. having said all that as i think i said in another thread these two boys were not really in our "best 22" anyway...just might hurt for mid-year player rotation. One players loss is anothers gain!

I wonder how much money these two players were on?Whatever it is,it would be more money to throw at Dangerfield,or another free agent next year.

And no,i don't believe that Dangerfield is a certainty to go to Geelong. Most players are mercenaries these days, and just follow the money.Sentiment just doesn't come into the equation anymore in football,so Dangerfield is still very much up for grabs.

What's with the Dangerfield obsession?

We need big guys - tall KPP's - at both ends.

Anyway screw Danger he will never come here.

Frost has already been upgraded. You're allowed to upgrade one rookie prior to the season starting.

How many more months will it take for posters here to give up on Dangerfeild ever coming to the 'pies? He will definitely be in Geelong colours, lock it in.
