So, have the appropriate questions been put to Collingwood's fitness staff or are we just going to let them get away with this again?

Razz Twisted Evil

I worry about the state of the QEO ground in Bendigo, this was where Shazza did his knee last year. I hope we fare much better this time round.

Season ending injuries to young players is always sad news and an issue for our game.

All this debate about whether restricting the interchange rotations and having subs or not is good for the game should really only be about whether it reduces fatigue injuries or not.

I think it was the Age that reported recently that it is likely the sub will be abolished and interchanges restricted to 80 per game next year.

So it should. The sub is the most pointless rule ever invented. How often is the sub dropped the next week because some bloke carved them up in the 2s.

That's actually 3 so far this preseason.

Petracca
Libber
McKenzie

Sucks for the players, maybe it's just someone else's turn now and we've done our penance.

Injuries and their impact are a conversation on its own. They can be coach killers ( ask guy mckenna ) Eric mckenzie was their b+ f last year. His loss is up there with a similar impact to the dogs losing libba.
The recent theory is that more bad knee injuries tend to occur at the start of the season because grounds are harder and the stops / blades dont give as easily when the twisting motion occurs. AFL consultants are supposed to be looking at certain soils and grasses to possibly reduce these injuries. Im no horticulturist but anything that helps to reduce these injuries, is worth looking at.

These injuries, while tragic (irrespective of the club), can happen during training. I haven't seen any analysis suggesting the number is increasing annually as a trend. This is just a fluff piece trying to pump punter interest.
