Is this a photo op or is it Real, hopefully we'll never know. It's a crap job but someone has to do it even if some do it better than others.

http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-stories/2015/01/20/police-sector-terrorism-alert-level-raised.html

Quote:
The terrorism threat level for Australian police has been elevated to high.

The Australian Federal Police say the change is a result of intelligence and discussions with its partners, and is in line with the broader threat level for the community.

'Recent events in France, Canada and Australia serve as a sobering reminder of the risks associated with policing,' the AFP said.

'While relatively small, there are increasing numbers of Australians who are connected with or inspired by overseas terrorist groups such as the Islamic State ... with the intent and capability to conduct an attack against police.'

There has been no movement in the polls since the last alert. Have to try again. Seriously do we have to tell people to be alert?

Well Police need to know if an attack is imminent I guess, but a lone wolf, or group who plan without using the internet or phones is going to be almost impossible to stop.

Sadly you are right. Being born in Sri Lanka, I have heard, read and seen many awful photos and pictures following the terrible atrocities committed by the LTTE Tamil Tiger terrorist Suicide bombers, either on their own or in small groups, and even blowing up cars, busses and trucks etc.

I REALLY hope such regular terror tactics, often performed concurrently in separate locations, never raises its head in this beautiful, peace loving, wonderful country of Australia.

Hardly the first time we've seen the coincidence of terror related raids or alerts when the Libs have been making turkeys of themselves in the media.

Politics 101 when wanting to get off the front page I would have thought and distract the voting public.

Well if that's the case they better try again cos it didn't work.

On the other hand, the Feds could be legitimately warning their state counterparts to take extra care when out on the beat.

Nah, that couldn't happen, obviously must be a Lib conspiracy.

Surely given what occurred in Sydney and Canada before that was enough that our Police would have already been on "high' alert.

If not then Paris would have surely sealed the deal and the alert raised immediately.

If it wasn't then why not?

For me it's simple.

The events above created enough hysteria within the media and public that Tone and Co. could milk them for all there political worth (Labor guilty of this as well) but as always happens once the media and the public's interest moves on there worth as a political diversion lessens quickly.

So what is a political party spin doctor to do when another PR problem arises?

Why raise the terror alert level or conduct a series of raids and play this in case of an emergency card to get peoples attentions away from the latest gaffe or poor poll numbers.

Both sides of politics are guilty of this as we saw with Labor and the whole darkest day in professional sports saga.

Personally I get the feeling that the AFP is a far more political beast than we'd like to believe and whatever political party is in power at the time is able to pull enough strings to get outcomes that suit there needs of the moment.
