This gives me nothing!

COLLINGWOOD
Collingwood identified it had a problem with its ability to hit targets consistently midway through last season, with coach Nathan Buckley often highlighting the statistic at post-game press conferences. The Magpies finished last in the competition for kicking efficiency (62.6 per cent), below the AFL average of 65.3 per cent. Kicking will be a clear focus over the pre-season, after Buckley witnessed, first-hand, Hawthorn dismantle the Sydney Swans due in large part to their exquisite foot skills. The Magpies also allowed teams to find possessions at will in 2014, ranking 17th in the competition for disposals conceded (380.4). The acquisition of Levi Greenwood should help to arrest some of those problems around the coalface, although Collingwood will need to find a ready-made replacement to account for the damaging loss of Dayne Beams. – Ben Guthrie

It says that we were lucky to end up 11th, and if we don't correct some fatal flaws in our game style, we'll be at the arse end of the ladder in 2015. Levi should help us getting possession of the football, but we need a player or two to set up to overcome the loss of Beams.

Simples.

I believe a physical mechanics expert has already been employed to arrest some of the issues raised previously. Our kicking certainly needs to be more accurate although players such as Scott Pendlebury seem to have more time and more options, and so accurate kicking by itself will be of little worth other than providing the players with confidence the ball will go exactly where they meant it to go.

I would prefer to see waves of players that provide so many options to handball, kick or sell the dummy that provides so many options for forward movement out opponents find it more difficult to predict and therefore stop our forward progress. Raw statistics are of benefit but not a panacea for useful observation.
