But is this encouraging Parents to use the Cheer Squad as pseudo child care?
WWCC is meant to be for Volunteers who are in a position of caring for child or in a position of power over them, the cheer squad is not like adults running a little league team. Unless children are allowed to join without their parents. I don't know. |

I have never been part of the cheer squad but my kids have been going to the footy with me since they were 5. (They are now either side of 30) I am sure there are families in a similar position who want to be part of the cheer squad. Women now make up a significant percentage of game attendees and the footy is supposed to be family friendly. I do not see anything wrong with active teenager supporters being part of the cheer squad and I do not see it as a form of baby sitting. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

The yarra falls end come rain hail or shine was nirvana!
There was no text anti social behaviour signs anywhere!
The beer and pie shop was right behind you!
The comments from the crowd were amazing and constant
Don Scott from Hawthorn copped it badly.
It had its limitations but if you asked me which did
I prefer- the mcg or the yarra falls end - no comparison!
PS I know the person who set them ( floggers ) on fire and it was a girl! |
IT wasn't a young girl named Lesley, aka Fencebanger, was it ??. LOL, man, that was fun, really pissed the Dons off something awful, it was tuddys first game as Dons coach I recall, we belted the crap outa them.! Where is Lesley these days anyway, I have not seen her post on Nicks for ages, anyone know whats shes up to now ? _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

In M32 every week.
As disturbed as the rest of us with the lack of "for the people" that the club and the game has become.
We're all waiting to see how these changes pan out......... _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.

Most of the rules are generally common sense but some of them are a little over the top though from what I can remember of reading the document that Dave had linked in this opening page of this thread. Unfortunately the PDF document is no longer available now to read after clicking the link again.
Although it's great to see that Joffa and the football club have come together to address the problems that have been existent within the cheer squad for the last few years. I've been willing to sacrifice my seat in m33 for this to work so I really hope the new Barrackers end takes off and becomes a hit amongst supporters in the Ponsford area. We've been overdue for a revamp for a long time to be honest.
I can't wait to see how it plays out next year. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

At the other spectrum the last thing we need is some drunken fool giving us all a bad reputation due to his obnoxious, aggressive and offensive behaviour. |
I don't get this—are young children going to the football unattended? Are they really likely to be kidnapped from amongst a crowd of people with cameras and security guards everywhere? If there's anything we should have learned from the past twenty-thirty years, it's that "stranger danger" is considerably less than most people once thought. Most abuse comes from family members and authority figures. I understand that there's a desire to minimise risk, but this sort of thing just seems like hysteria (a bit like men not being allowed to sit next to children on planes).
As for the second point, I think we just need to accept that yobs enjoy footy too. If our reputation as Collingwood supporters is inevitably going to be based on the most obnoxious supporters, then perhaps the only solution is to stop worrying about it. Most jokes and disparaging remarks about Collingwood supporters is really just old-fashioned class snobbery anyway. I don't take it particularly seriously. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I went to the Dream Theater concert at the Palais on Wednesday night. Before the end of the first song, everyone in the stalls was standing and remained that way for three hours until the concert ended. Try standing in your spot even for a few seconds on level 2 of the Ponsford and seeing what happens. No wonder there's no atmosphere. Anyone who expresses anything approaching passion is likely to get escorted out. |
