The Kiwis are allowed to do their dumb haka, which is a traditional dance designed to intimidate other groups; any group doing likewise right back at them can only be a good thing. What makes the Kiwis think they are the only ones allowed to act like dickheads? _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

I don't understand the point of premeditated responses to the Haka. Just let them do it, smile, clap if they did a good one then get on with the game. |

Better than everyone else standing around awkwardly, right? The haka is done purely for theatre, so I can't see why a bit of theatre on the other side hurts.
Besides, surely any boring rugby game would be improved by a good all-in brawl at the beginning. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

The Haka is an invitation to "war" ("compete" would be a better word in a sporting context) and is designed to intimidate the opponent.
Those Aussie boys standing up to it is a case of - you're doing it right!!!!
The exceptions in this case were - the few on the end that stepped over the halfway line, (only mildly), but that fkn blonde clown with that smirk on his smart arse head deserved to have it knocked off!!
Turning their backs (ala the Wallabies a few years ago who got beaten by 50 odd points!! ) and/or openly mocking it (ala Victor Matfield, former Captain of South Africa), are actions that are the height of disrespect. _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.

a couple of the other pacific island nations have their own version of the haka. iirc, the fijians have a more threatening version where they charge at the opposition.
i think the kiwis are being a little oversensitive but, having said that, the aussies should be more culturally aware and respectful. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

Lol, JW.
Majority Kiwi view is compatible with mine - but you'll always get a perception of a view from the people who make themselves heard loudest; ie, people who need to have something to complain about.
The general consensus is that it's great somebody had the balls to eyeball a version of the Haka face-to-face.
The only real disrespect was from that blonde goose. _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.

I know you're taking the piss, no harm in that!!!!
But, would you make the same comment about an Aboriginal war dance?????

^ Dead wrong. Not taking thet piss at all. I've never seen an "Aboriginal war dance", but I can't see any reason why I would not make the same comment about that, or about Ali's famously stupid posturing before a bout for that matter. Well, apart from the fact that we don't seem to see them so they ain't in your face to the same extent. Is there something that makes them different in essence to a haka? _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

PS: I have enormous respect for great sportsmen who are decent people - for example, Bradman, McGrath, Flower; none for dickheads like Ali and Botham and Acker who just happen to be good at sport.
PPS: I wouldn't want to ban the Kiwis and their "theatre", but if I was playing against them, I wouldn't pay it any respect whatever. They do it to try to get a psychological advantage. Screw that; the best response it to ignore it. Let then look dumb and do what they want, spend their haka time doing more important stuff like waving to the crowd or tying up your bootlaces. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |
