Post subject: The current trade systemReply with quote

With free agency coming into the game we've also seen an influx of what many in other sports refer to as 'player power', whereby with the threat of players being able to eventually move for nothing they're able to strong arm clubs into making trades to destinations of their choosing.

Whilst many have directed their anger with the current state of affairs at the introduction of Free Agency, I think there is an even bigger problem to be addressed; a player's ability to pick and choose where they are traded.

I think the solution is to use a similar trading model to that which the NBA uses. Unless a player has it specifically written into their contract (and not many NBA players are granted that by their clubs, normally only long serving club champions) then AFL players should not be able to turn down a trade if their club agrees to it.

Now obviously there are factors to take into account here, such as players contracts. In the NBA a player does not sign a new contract when they move, their current contract is simply carried over, so they're not sacrificing any money that they already would be earning, whereas in the AFL players sign new deals upon arriving at a new club.

What are everyone's thoughts on this? Could these changes be implemented somehow?
