An experienced, hard body for a couple of years?

Given he's not in Hawthorn's best 22...

You can't makes Lukey Ball retire and then bring this old hack in.

Not to be a smart a**^ but he clearly wasnt in hawks best 22.
Been a great warrior for them but bringing him in would certainly worry me.
As kenny rogers said " you gots to know when to fold em ".
Malcheski or nothing.

Phil i asked this question in another trade thread, prior to the Beams bombshell, and got pissed on:

TRADE WEEK PREDICTIONS

Anybody open to Sewell, for a very late pick?
Looks like his race might be run at Hawthorn by as early as thursday.
Would be a one-season contract, effectively replacing Ball for extraction, and to take the hits in the centre, as his leg speed is seemingly lost too.
Short term band aid selection only, until we get this Adams and Thomas situation nutted out by 2016.

No thanks. Why would we get rid of Ball, only to recruit an inferior version of him who's the same age?

Adams is a better player than Ball. Sewell is inferior to both.

Piesnchess is on board for this too:

Look, next year our Baby Pies are gonna be so young, some of us may have to go on Nanny duties down at the Club. ! What we really need, IMHO, is to recruit 2 senior guys, too help guide the young fledglings Pies. Now, if brad sewell misses out on the GF this week, hed be one id definitely want on, say, a 2 year deal, hed take over from Ball. We really need some experienced guys now, what wiith Beams leaving too, we will be the Leagues youngest Creche. !

What a magnificent spit in the face to Bally that would be. Thanks Luke, but you're too old and you'll be playing a lot of VFL next year. Oh by the way, we'll be picking up your 30 year old mate Sewell who is also a slow paced insider with dodgy calfs and hamstrings.

Great player but he wouldn't be a part of our long-term future plans. If we got him for literally nothing and he led by example for a year or two with our young list I'd consider it.

Sewell is out of contract at the end of next year by the way so it's not likely we'll pursue him.

Then he'd be rather optimistic to think he'd crack their best 22, before ours...

He is a perfect fit for GWS/Melb or even GC.

Like others have said, you dont drop Luke Ball and bring in Sewell.

I'd like to see him continue on next year. It'll be interesting to see if he goes to another club. Just hope its not Essendon.

I think whatever the case it pays to bring people either on field or off field from the best club in the land, and that is Hawthorn.

Sewell in this case knows how they train, how they meet, how the eat, how they crap. That can be of great benefit.

^^

This is true. But that could also work in a development role.

Sewell is past it in terms of providing consistency over a complete season but this is not a bad idea.

Let's not forget we have Macaffer & Scharenberg on the long term injury list next year so we could fit him in for 1 year, he can help out with the development of our younger players a hopefully play 12-16 decent games.
