Are any games telecast on FTA or all pay TV?

Sorry, DB - just saw your post (I was away from Melbourne yesterday). By way of reply, this should answer your question:

There is a change in free to air coverage this year. It's moved from 1/10 to 7 (on 7mate, I think). For those of you who would like a schedule showing local times here, the following link might assist: http://ussportsdownunder.com/2014-australian-nfl-tv-guide/

The interactive schedule is actually quite useful because it allows you to isolate just the FTA games, if that's what you watch. It is sometimes updated fairly close to game time, so don't necessarily assume that because, eg, no games are listed for a particular weekend, that that is correct - it is likely that the coverage will be added late in the week before the game.

I can now add that the FTA coverage is confirmed on 7mate (digital channel 73) and is broadcast in HD. The FTA coverage will, no doubt, vary from time to time but the network apparently intends to show 3 live games per week (overnight Sunday/Monday morning). This time of year, the first game coverage starts around 3 am and the third game finishes early Monday afternoon, our time but, of course, it changes with the summer time adjustments. 7mate also showed the season opener last Friday morning and, I suppose, will show the special schedules (eg, Thanksgiving, Xmas etc) that don't necessarily fall on a Sunday and all of the play off games. I don't know, yet, whether they are showing FTA replays, One HD used to do but, if they are, that should show in the schedule link, as well.

Great, thanks for the info.

My partner enjoys watching the NFL but we don't have pay TV.
Checked the TV guide over the weekend and couldn't find anything.

Detroit walking away with this one, now - 35:14 with 4 m 12s to go in the 4th.

In other games, Denver just held off a fast-finishing Indianapolis 31:24, the Panthers (without Cam Newton) beat Tampa Bay 20:14, the 49ers won easily against Dallas 28:17 (will Romo survive all these turnovers?), Matt Ryan's Atlanta did very well to overhaul New Orleans and win in extra time 37:34, after Marques Coulston fumbled on a run after a completion (this was a great display of QB play on both sides and is worth watching, if you get a chance), the Vikes pulverised the Rams 34:6 (going to be a long season for St Louis fans - again), the Steelers just held off the Browns to win 30:27, the Eagles put up 34 unanswered points to turn it round to 34:17 after trailing the Jaguars by 17 at half-time, Derek Carr was good for Oakland in a 14:19 loss to the Jets but unfortunately his team could only manage 25 yards rushing from 15 carries, so they'll need to work on that in coming weeks, the Bengals beat the Ravens 23:16, the Bills got over the Bears in OT 23:20 in Chicago, the Texans beat Washington 17:6 (RGIII on the skids?), the Chiefs were whipped 26:10 by the Titans, the Dolphins thumped the Pats 33:20. San Diego are still to play Arizona.

NEXT WEEK'S FTA GAMES:

At this stage, 7mate is advertising Lions at Panthers, Chiefs at Broncos and Bears at 49ers (OEP and I will be barracking for the same thing in this one!). The early game is looking better on paper than it did before the Lions put the Giants away easily this morning. There is game on Friday morning (Melbourne time) - Steelers at Ravens but I don't know yet whether there will be FTA coverage.

So, round 2 is almost complete. It started last Friday morning (our time) with the Ravens (without Ray Rice) pummelling the Steelers 26:6. Since then, the Bills beat the Dolphins 29:10, Washington (mostly without RGIII, who hurt his ankle and left the game early) slaughtered the Jaguars 41:10, Dallas beat the Titans 26:10, the Cardinals killed off the Giants with a last quarter rally 25:14, as did the Bears - who put up 3 last quarter TDs to get over the 49ers 28:20, the Pats put up 30 unanswered points to beat the Vikes 30:7, the Browns held on to win 26:24 over New Orleans (who were pre-season Superbowl favourites in some quarters but now have a 0:2 record), the Bengals beat the Falcons 24:10, the Panthers comfortably accounted for the Lions 24:7 (the Lions need to find a kicker who can hit the target by the looks of that effort) and the Rams (!!! yes, really) beat the Bucs 19:17. Meanwhile, the Chargers upset the Seahawks 30:21, making the 49ers loss a little less damaging (perhaps), the Broncos (who look to me to be struggling offensively somewhat) just held on to beat the Chiefs 24:17 and the Texans pumped the Raiders 30:14, with JJ Watt starting what will, no doubt, be a reasonably short career as a receiver with a 1 yard TD catch to start the scoring.

Meanwhile, implosion of the week goes to the Jets, who led 21:3 but ultimately lost 31:24 to the Pack. A timeout call from defensive end Sheldon Richardson on the sideline with about 5 minutes to go meant that what would have been a score-equalising TD play for the Jets was called back.

In the last game of the week, the Colts lead 10:6 over the Eagles at the 2 minute warning before half-time.

NEXT WEEK'S FTA GAMES (on 7mate):

3 am Monday (our time): Washington at Philadelphia.

6.25 am Monday (our time): a mouth-watering game with the Broncos visiting the Seahawks for the Superbowl re-match.

10.30 am Monday (our time): the Steelers visit the Panthers

Been a lot of upsets and games thrown away (literally) the last two weeks. Obviously teams are still rusty, but at least the games have been exciting, excluding the 49ers vs Bears game that was frickin' painful to watch.

The Bucs lost 56:14 to the Falcons today (it was 56:0 until junk time). Devin Hester murdered them, returning both a punt and a kick for TDs, amongst other things.

This Monday's FTA games are Green Bay at Chicago (3 am, our time), Philly at San Francisco (6.25 am) and New Orleans at Dallas (10.25 am).

Here's hoping that the Pack and the 49ers can offer more competitive efforts than their early season form.

In the "Thursday night" game, the Giants thumped Washington 45:14. Eli threw 4 TDs and scrambled a rushed TD himself.
