The 40 man All Australian squad has been announced and only 2 pies are in (Pendles & Beams)
Looking at our season it's not surprising we only got 2 in and realistically we couldn't have expected many more.
Looking at the squad I can't find another magpie to push his way in to replace anyone selected.
Whilst its only the squad and will be trimmed down I don't know if Pendles or Beams will stay in.

Congrats to both guys on making the squad a fair reward for our 2 best players in season 2014

Pendlebury is a cert. Any AA team without him would be a sick joke.

Beamer could go either way and no-one could sensibly complain. He's had a poorish year by his standards, mostly battling with injury, but when he has been on the grass he's been up somewhere pretty close to AA standard. You'd reckon that, given the number of outstanding midfielders in the comp at present, Beamer will probably miss out.

I knew someone would automatically scream sidebottom but alas he didn't make it.
When I looked though the selections his name was the only player I thought may have been a chance from the pies to go in but at who's expense is the question ?
Honestly as much as I like sidey I cant find a place for him in the squad.

Tannin agree with the Beams accessment his best days make him a lock but he like many other pies players had many down days.
I would pick Pendles every day of the week and twice on Sunday's but I don't know if the selectors will.
I looked for a place for sidey but couldn't find anyone in the squad of a similar positional player or stature to remove.
I guess that says more about our poor season

Pendles has had an ordinary year (by his standards).

Fyfe, Selwood, Heppell, Lewis, Rockliff and Parker have had better years imo- and are more deserving of AA this year.

That said, would not be surprised if Pendles snuck a gurnsey.

Beamer would have been a chance if he had not missed last few through injury.

Steele stiff- but suspension killed him/us.

Jamie was tracking for AA until injury struck.

Yep. Which makes him only about the 8th or 12th best player in the AFL this season.

And if I am not mistaken Pendles won The Age player of the year. Because the Age gives five players marks out of ten rather than 321 (Brownlow or Herald Sun) it is probably a more accurate indicator - I think the Herald Sun award is 321, but I might have that wrong, I don't read the Herald Scum.

Pendles for sure - just so classy.

Sidey has stepped up and would be close but needs to kick more goals to get a go - pencil him for next year, he is only 24 next year!

Beams and Elliot without injuries would have made it!

Neither Beams nor Pendlebury will make the final cut. Jordan Lewis will take Pendles' spot.
